Happy St Lucy’s day! (Sankta Lucia)

Celebrated in Helsinki today on December 13th, what a lovely tradition.

We all need a bearer of light every now and then.

We’ve celebrated St. Lucy’s day for many decades here in our family.
My partner’s grandmother was hurt by lye over 60 years ago and suffered vision loss. She was a very religious woman and prayed to St Lucy for her recovery. Her prayers were answered and her vision came back to normal.
Although she is long gone now, Nancy continues to make a wheat soup every year on this day. It’s cooling on our porch as I write this.

Amazing.

The tradition in Scandinavia goes back hundreds of years.

As someone that has had poor vision all my life I have a special devotion to St. Lucy. May her her light intercede for all those that need help in darkness.
