I have always thought that Julie Andrews - in her "Sound of Music Days" was just about the most attractive woman I have ever seen.
Vivian Leigh, Elizabeth Taylor and Grace Kelly are probably the next 'best three'.
This tells you something about my age.
Not into some of the trashy celebrities of the modern age, particularly those whose surname starts with "K".

1st thought) Glad she's not dead. When I first saw this thread, thought that was why it was put up
2nd thought) Since she's not dead, what a random thread
3rd thought) She's always seemed delightful

A class act and singing talent to be sure.

We still watch The Sound of Music each year at about this time.

I guess I’ve always been a guy that’s is drawn to Maria vs Elsa “the baroness”, MaryAnn vs Ginger ... you get the idea.

Good for you. Your mind went to honoring someone. Instead of the opposite. Says a lot about you and your mindset.

Canadian content:

This is interesting as we usually assume that popular movies were well received at the time....

Indeed, when The Sound of Music was released, the reviews were awful. Pauline Kael trounced it as “mechanically engineered” to transform the audience into “emotional and aesthetic imbeciles when we hear ourselves humming the sickly, goody-goody songs.” In The New York Times, Bosley Crowther allowed that Andrews “goes at it happily and bravely” while noting that the other adult actors “are fairly horrendous, especially Christopher Plummer as Captain von Trapp.”

I used to work in a grocery in Brentwood, California working my way through under-grad and grad. As a checker, stocker, part time manager, I had all sorts of stars come through my line. People who I chit chatted with, as I tallied their groceries, would be Harrison Ford, Dennis Quaid, Meg Ryan, Angela Lansbury, Jimmy Smits (increadibly nice guy and his wife too- that's not nuance!) and a long long list of others. Tom Cruise asked me where the cat food was, and what's her name who is married to John Travolta had (Kelly something can't remember right now...)to find some of the crappy cheap onion dip, the best! This is probably when John was really fat. Anyways, the ONE who I was like wholly crap!!! Was Julie Andrews. I grew up with her and Mary Poppins, and Bedknobs and broomsticks, and the Sound of Music (not my favorite by far...). Who remembers Arthur. That was an eye opener.

One more thing. She was delightful. Truly, very nice.
