The Man Behind The Crown Video

This video from Rolex is awesome! So much history. Just wanted to share it since I've not seen it posted.

Thanks for sharing!!!
Yes, a lot of history. I'm often wondering what will be the future of the company, giving technology and electronics are creating new tech gadgets that are a lot less expansive and more functional. Will Rolex watches be produced on demand as boutique watches or will it be something else...?

Is it truthful?

Where was mention of Alfred Davis and I thought Mercedes DIDNT swim the channel wearing a Rolex. She failed wearing it and managed it at another point in time.

Small things but if you're going to make a historically accurate video ...

Noticed they turned off comments too on the video - wonder if others piped in.

I believe the story is that Mercedes swam it twice, the first time no watch and received very little press. Wilsdorf asked her to swim it again with the watch and he provided the press and media coverage that we see today.

Saw it this morning, I especially liked the part where the name Rolex was whispered into his ear by a 'Genie'!

Yeah but she failed it the second time, with the watch. So I seem to remember lol

Another Rolex record!!!

100+ years of history in 5 minutes.

For those seeking truth, remember it’s a PR video made for the internet...

Correct. She stopped quite a few miles short on the so-called 'vindication swim' with the Rolex.

Such great history with the brand it shows how it made its name as the # professional tool watch in the world.

Such is the esteemed history of the brand it lends one to ponder the thought that it is a privilege to own a watch of this brand and that it isn't so bad that they are not easy to acquire. Perhaps the way it should be and always be from now on.

But, the Oyster endured and prevailed, regardless.

The swim, whether successful or not, was only the vehicle by which Wilsdorf would prove the durability of his wristwatch.

That's what's important.

I really don't see the need for cynicism at all.

I don't disagree with you, but nonetheless Rolex has always worded their advertising and other company materials to look like she completed the swim. I'm not knocking the Oyster.

Not being cynical, Grady.

Just saying it’s a PR video - not worth quibbling over little details like some had noted earlier.
