Incoming Seamaster 300

I celebrated not winning the Explorer giveaway by getting this second hand Seamaster 300 from DavidSW.

The previous owner has brushed the centre links of the bracelet which I prefer. In fact this gave me incentive to buy the watch as I am not a fan of PCLs.

This will be my second Omega, I am very much looking forward to wearing it over the holidays.

To steal a phrase from the home improvement shows my wife is addicted to.......I love the "mid-century modern" look.

Congrats on the pickup. Let us know how you like it.

My problem with only brushing the bracelet is that the top sides of the case are still polished, so a brushed bracelet seems a bit incongruous. The PCL's match the case better, imo.

I've often thought the perfect finish for the SM300 would be one where the case essentially matches the clasp: the top surfaces and sides are brushed, but the beveled edges are polished; leave the bezel as is. Pair that with a bracelet with fully brushed top surfaces and polished sides (like the Planet Ocean). I know that isn't historically accurate, but it would create more of a tool watch aesthetic, while still having enough gleam to keep it interesting.

That said, the stock design works well, too (which is how I have mine); it's just very shiny.

The watch is still a couple of days away... And the excitement levels are high.

I've thought about the mismatched bracelet and case. And if it bugs me, I'll consider brushing the case as well.

Funny you should mention getting the case brushed. I just talked to the watchmaker at my local Omega AD today, asking him what it would take to get it done. His opinion was brushing the bracelet is a cinch, but brushing the top sides of the case would be a big job, requiring a fair amount of disassembly, and quite expensive. He said he wouldn't actually do it, so I'd have to find a custom guy, and hope he knows enough about Omegas to handle the watch well. It put me off wanting to try it. If you look into it, I'd be interested in hearing what you find out.

Regardless, I hope you enjoy your SM300. Wear it in good health.

Thanks Fred.

A question if I may. I am seeing a lot of references to a serial number engraved on the 7 o'clock lug. Can anyone tell me if there should be one there?

Yes, there should be a 8 digit serial on the back side of the 7 o'clock lug.

The same serial number will also be visible on the movement through the caseback, near the engraved lug.

You should brush the case and the whole watch for that matter. It looks great
