Amen. I did literally LOL at the comment above of giving a high school graduate a 34k watch. Are you freakin kidding me??

I love the 64. It is one of the most versatile and comfortable watches I have ever owned. Based on most iconic, the 5711 will get most of the votes. That said you should have both!

Both fit the bill but I love love love the 5164A. It’s become my favorite watch.

There is nothing tricky about this question. At MSRP, it's always 5711.

Your grandfathers watch is most likely way too dressy by todays standards to wear around... probably too small too.

People use to go out to dinner in a jacket and a tie so by 2040 following the tend line its probably going to be OK to do it in underwear ... 64 all the way

While overall I agree, I still am at a loss of figuring out where the flannel craze of the 1990s fits in- it seems fashion has gotten less casual in the last 10-15 years than the ‘90s and early 2000s. Perhaps this was just a minor irregularity in the overall trend.

To the OP, it is such a hard choice choosing between these models (5711, 5712, 5167, 5164), i know! I would say go with your gut, what you think you are most likely to wear the most amount of time so that you 1) get the most enjoyment out of it, and 2) the child to whom you are passing it down strongly identifies the watch with you and your wrist.

Looking forward to seeing what you decide!

FWIW, for me it was the 5167 (I don’t cross time zones too often and prefer the date window over date wheel on the aqua) followed by the 5712 (just love the assymetry of the dial).

I’d go 5711 but I don’t think you’d go wrong with either.
