But my wife insists on using G wagons as her daily.

I have 2 kids, and they much prefer the RR because of the space. I have had all the luxury SUVs, including the Bentley. My two favorite are always RR and the G-series.

I prefer LWB over standard size and it makes no difference in parking etc.

The updates on the 2018+ on the interior are finally bringing them on par with tech.

I have never had real issues with any of my RR.

Sick garage!! Love the McLaren!

You're 5'17" aren't you, Ty? If your kids are as tall as you, or are likely to be in the next ten years, then think of an LWB. Otherwise, go standard

its the constant struggle. Being tall and having tall kids. Things just are not made for me as standard. Trying to organize a LWB test drive now, even if it means organizing it in the UK and on the wrong side of the road with no clue of any traffic laws... wish me luck

They will probably only let me sit in it though.

It’s probably also worth sitting on the back (maybe even during a drive) on both the LWB and the regular one, even if you’ll be driving most of the time it’ll give you an idea of how much difference in space there is between the two and see if it’s worth it.

At 5'17", they'll probably let you do anything you want!

Joking aside, think about telling them you're interested in a diesel engine version. Diesel sales in the UK have taken a battering over the last couple of years because of the constant taxation, so the dealership might be more inclined to assist at the prospect of selling one, particularly if they have one in stock. Mrs Van D and me scored unbelievable deals on two diesel cars back at the end of March.

Anyhoo, if you go in to a dealership expressing interest in a brand new RR, they should be doing whatever they can anyway. Call me Captain State-the-Obvious, but don't mention you're looking to buy one with the steering wheel on the wrong side when you go home.

You might also be better off taking a trip out of London and into the Home Counties, where sales staff might be a little more obliging.

Good luck and let us know how you get on

Thanks for the comments regarding the Defender and a couple more photos for anybody interested.

https://www.rolexforums.com/attachme...1&d=1526978425

I know the interior is a bit ‘pimped’ and not to everybodies taste but it had been pre-specced by the dealer (I would have gone black with red stitching)

Thanks for your help guys.

Its officially "ordered" whatever that means. It's going to be a 2019 model and they have zero info on what exactly a 2019 model will even be as far as new features or even prices as the 2018 builds have stopped. So its by far the weirdest attempt at a vehicle purchase i have ever done. They have my 2018 "build" and are going off of that. Delivery in December, however im getting the sales guy to try to slow it down a bit until i get there in January.

Went with the standard wheel base, supercharged V-8, and in Scafell Grey (SVO color).

So in a nutshell "ordered" but things are subject to change. However i will have the option to modify later as the actual build date approaches, i'm just securing my spot in the queue.

Great colour choice.
Have you been on the configurator? - it looks fantastic with the black pack

not doing the black pack. I like it a lot, but i feel i might get tired of it after a while. I like the black body accents specifically i just dont like black wheels.

X2 we got an evoque for the Mrs. and was a nightmare! first one a lemon, got a new one and they upgraded to the fully loaded model, second one had a full replacement of the drive train under warranty... transmission, driveshaft, diff, etc... we've had no problems as since the warranty work but she was with a rental for about 5 months...

beautiful cars but after all the hassle I changed my mind from getting the larger rover for myself.

We bought my wife a full size in 2011. It's the best $40k SUV .... the only issue is it cost $95k.

Issues:
  • With only 100 miles on it the rear suspension and axle had to be replaced (under warranty obviously),
  • Needs breaks every 15k - 17k miles,
  • Had extended warranty to 74k miles ... at 75k miles the suspension started to fail, among other things.
Spent about $10k in repairs over just a couple of months. BUT, my wife still loves it and now wants a new one.

My best friend has a 2018 Autobiography and its really nice, but he's leasing (and owns about 40 other cars), so keeping it long term is not an issue for him.

As much as we love ours, it's hard for me to recommend long-term ownership. If we get another I'll strongly consider a lease.

I see I'm late to the party. Been a while since I was on.

I have had two FFRR, a 2000 and a 2009.

The good. Safety, comfort, capability.
Safety - I hydroplaned at 70mph into a wall with the 2000 model (here in Houston we receive lots of rain and "ponding"). The vehicle self sacrificed, engine and tranny went under the vehicle, front of the vehicle crushed. I walked away with a few scratches. Paramedics on scene did not believe I was the driver.
Comfort - I have driven and ridden in a lot of vehicles over my life time, this is near to if not the most comfortable ride / interior. Especially when you get 100 miles of bad road on a road trip.
Capability - I was in Denver during a really bad snow storm, people in Jeeps were literally sliding off the road. I could hear the Rover transferring power to the different wheels, etc. felt like I was on dry pavement. I thought others were just bad drivers, then I stepped out of the Rover and slipped. No traction at all. I had to literally climb back into the vehicle. When driving again, same noise of transferring power, felt like I was on dry pavement.
I was in NOLA, they have epic "ponding" like Houston. The street was flooded two feet deep, no one was getting through. I pushed the vehicle lift button, and waded through. No problems.

The bad. Maintenance. The dealer network in the US.
Maintenance. Both of the FFRR I have owned have had problems from day one. To the point, my service advisor was on my Christmas card list because I saw her so often. She has moved to the north Houston location, so I just see the service manager at the I10 location now. If you are buying from that location, his name is Dexter (he's a good guy). I suggest you introduce your self when you buy the vehicle.
The dealer network. I thought it was just the horrid Sonic owned dealers here in Houston. Nope. I broke down near Glenwood Spring, CO on a trip. Vehicle still under warranty. They said it would take a week to repair (something simple), and had no loaner vehicles at that time (but I could rent something from them!). I ended up at an independent shop down the street and was back on the road the same day.

Conclusion. I am alive to pay for / deal with and complain about the maintenance. Had I been in my Porsche and hit that wall at 70mph, I'd be dead. Granted, I would not have been driving the Porsche in the rain, but you get my point.

Range Rover Advice

thanks to everyone for the help and advise...been away for a bit, but just to update the car arrived (early)... flew into houston last week to pick it up and put about 800 miles on it before putting it into storage

Safely put away until we finally get around to getting this move done.

the important bits... 2019 Supercharged, Scafell Grey, and went with the standard wheel base.
Heads up display, traffic sign recognition (IE speed limit in the HUD), and all the tech like the phone monitoring apps vastly exceeded expectations as its pretty cool to check to make sure your doors are locked and windows are up whenever you want if you are OCD. The con. Cant think of much but the tailgate automatic open by kicking your foot under the bumper is pretty worthless as it doesn't really save much time and you might accidentally kick the car

Really liking how the color turned out as its a very light grey in the sun and a dark grey in the shade and looks way better than in pics.
