Well no bundle required and not a huge client either…apparently it’s the son of an AD that closed earlier this year so I guess they don’t care if PP is pissed.

Considering all of that, it’s actually quite weird that they didn’t just go ahead and break all the AD instructions. And just flogging it out without any name on the certificate and double sealed rather than single sealed.

Very interesting read. What an opportunistic move.

Wonder if he has more sports models never sold to customers that he’s waiting to offload. Might as well juice the market a bit by selling this one first, then dump the rest. After all, they probably one the sort was closing well before inventory stopped coming in… No (business) reason to allocate to good customers if there would be no future purchases.

Thanks for the article but there was zero factual evidence. Did Antiquorum name the seller?

Without them naming the consignor, it’s pure speculation don’t you think?

Would think that the name on the owner’s certificate is the initial owner of the piece… no?

That would be a natural expectation for a pre-owned sale.

Per the narrative it was a blank certificate and double sealed.

The owner's name is nowhere to be seen? Am I missing something.

They don’t need to, they have algorithmic software that searches for pics of Rolex watches for sale, if 4 or more digits can be seen on the serial number they can find out who sold the watch, no need to buy them back.

Patek buys watches at auction.

Period.

Stop speculating that it doesn't make sense.

They do it. They've done it for almost two decades.

Will they re-circulate this watch as NEW to another AD to find a new customer, assuming Patek bought it? Or will it go to the museum? Would prefer another deserving customer to get it rather than be kept in the museum for display

That's a great question. I'm not sure what they do with the watches they remove from the market.

That said, the 5711 Green is only limited in production duration, not in number of cases/movements.

They're still making them. Losing 1-3 in the marketplace due to flippers doesn't really matter much.

It's just frustrating to us true collectors who wouldn't flip when we see this happen and we are still trying (but perhaps failing) to get one ourselves. But ultimately, it's not like a "limited run of 20 pieces and 3 were flipped and then Patek took them out of circulation" situation.
