"Incoming" and why I pick this Patek Philippe sport watch (Review + a lot of pics)

"Hi" TRF friends and members......

I would like to share my thought and my journey to why I pick the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167/1a-001 sport watch.. watch.....

Having a good relationship friend with my AD.... He know that I'm a watch lover that keep adding watch and never flip it for a profit...
He help a lot of getting the watch that I want as you guys know all the Aquanaut & Nautilus are hard to get, with the hype and madness going on....

I'm a big fan of Rolex sport watch model and always think Patek Philippe is known for classy traditional complications moon-phase watch that why I bought a Patek Philippe 5146R

At first I was dead set to get a Rolex stainless steel Sky Dweller with blue dial and rethink and looking at my watch collection.... And I say to myself that I missing a Patek Philippe sport watch, from then on I have change my mind.....

Knowing it got to be a Aquanaut or a Nautilus but which one.... That is the hard part and the only person could answer that questions is me....lol....

Doing my homework research and I was lucky to see both Aquanaut 5167 on rubber strap and Nautilus 5711 blue dial to get an idea on what watch is right for me......

The winner is Aquanaut 5167/1a-001 on bracelet....

Why I pick this...... Because....

1. Aquanaut 5167 is the only Patek Philippe watch that can be change to 3 different type of Patek Philippe original equipment manufacturer strap such as bracelet, rubber, and crocodile leather strap with pin buckle or Calatrava cross deployant clasp....

I when with the bracelet version because you can always add a rubber strap with deployant clasp and crocodile leather strap with pin buckle or Calatrava cross deployant clasp, later on in the future.... (My next mods would be Patek Philippe gray crocodile leather strap with Calatrava cross deployant clasp) Very sexy IMO....hehehe....

Courtesy pictures from a friend who work at the AD to show different type of Patek Philippe original equipment manufacturer strap.... Thank yo my brother.....

Regarding about the Aquanaut bracelet version is very solid like the Rolex oyster bracelet unlike the Nautilus bracelet where people complain it clumsy and light weight making it feel fragile, not solid like the Rolex bracelet..... Nonetheless Nautilus is good looking bracelet....

The weight of the Aquanaut bracelet version is surprisingly at 137 grams with 2 links taking off the watch, same as the Rolex SS Daytona at 137 grams with 1 link taking off the watch......

Technical the 5167/1a is a heavier watch compare to SS Daytona if both to have full links.....

The 5167 bracelet version is very comfortable.... It like wearing a Rolex Daytona reference 116520

2. IMHO I find that the sunburst dial on the 5167 is more nicer than 5711...... It have that 50 shade of gray until it turn black depend on the light condition.... My favorite color of the dial depend on the light condition is when it anodizing aluminum, it give that gray/bronze look....

3. I think you all have to agree with me on this one...... Very easy to read time quickly during day or night...... The lume is amazing both on the hour markers and the Arabic numerals.....

4. Nobody dose the workmanship like a Patek Philippe... Nobody....

5. Strong conservative resale value....

Now for the cons...

1. Aquanaut bracelet version is the pain in the ass if you need to remove or add links.... Your AD or watchmaker must use a Bergeon 6819 professional pin pusher pliers remover and insert tool...

If they don't have that tool I strongly advice not to size the bracelet.... Without that tool you could risk damage the bracelet links.....

2. I have one defect pin and tube, causing difficultly to remove one of the link.... Lucky no damage to the link..... My AD have to order it form Patek Philippe Geneva....... Can't believe Patek Philippe Service Center USA don't have it in stock.......

3. No fine tune adjustment on the bracelet.....

Conclusion....

The Aquanaut bracelet version is flashy like the SS Daytona...... If you want under the radar then it best to go with the rubber strap.....

If you love how the Rolex SS Daytona wear plus want the big look of the Rolex Submariner, Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167/1a-001on bracelet is the way to go, no doubt about it.......!!!

Now for the fun random pictures......

Hopefully you guys enjoy my helpful information & my review on the Patek Philippe Aquanaut 5167/1a-001 bracelet version......

Best Regards,
Tony

I’ve not seen an aquanaut been put on a leather strap before, was it easy? Is it a normal Calatrava strap?
I’m thinking of a 517r and this idea really intrigued me

Great white up also

Fantastic photos. Seeing an Aquanaut on a leather strap is a first! Looks rather interesting, I have to say. It had not occured to me that I could move my beautiful Calatrava strap across...... rather than watch this wedding, that’s what I’m going to do right now...

Tony, that's a great review! It makes me want to get one, or at least to have your Patek relationship!

Enjoy it!
