What are your thoughts on gold chains?

Before I got heavily into luxury watches, I bought a 14k yellow gold curb chain. However, I’ve stopped wearing it for the most part, because I just don’t think the chain look suits my style.
What do you guys think about gold chains? Do they look cool, or are they tacky?

I wouldn't wear one, but I'm not a rapper.

Personally - tacky.

But then, I'm from the UK, and as a generalisation I suspect we are less keen on vulgar displays of wealth as a whole. (Watches are fine, but then I personally subscribe to the guideline that a man's visual jewelry should comprise a watch, a ring or two, and cuff links).

Each to their own though, if that's what someone wants to do, then have at it. It's a short life, there's little point in overly worrying about what others think.

It depends on the design, your attire, and the occasion. Definately want 18k or better. More than one starts to look like a douche.

The anchor they provided was a trinket.

When I was 17 I thought they were cool.

At 34, not so much.

It’s a pretty dated look. I’m not sure it was even a great look when it was more “popular.” I’d pass.

My wife gave me a 14kt white gold link necklace for a wedding gift back in 2000. I love it and never take it off. It’s pretty low key. Not like the guy in my avatar wears

I still wear an old rope YG necklace occasionally. I have had if for a very long time. In the 80's I wore a lot of YG but everything but the necklace is hidden away now. I like to go 80's sometimes so will sport the chain with my 116613 LB. Others may laugh but it works for me. Makes me chuckle a little. I know it is dated which is one of the reasons I do it...

Really depends. If it's size is big enough to pull you car out of a ditch and everyone can see it all the time then no. My wife gifted to me a thin 18kt curb 40 years ago that stays on 24/7. No one sees it when I have a shirt on. Much different idea than the big gold chain craze of recent tears.

If it is relatively thin and worn discreetly, then it's okay in my opinion.

Sure why not, just don’t unbutton your shirt to show it off and don’t get one big enough to tow a tanker. Seriously, I have a gold chain with a religious icon that I never remove and most people never even know I’m wearing it.

Thought they were cool in the 90's. Now in my mid 50's definitely tacky. This includes gold bracelets also.

I own a white gold chain with diamond cross, huge diamond bracelet and diamond ring. The chain and cross fly under the radar(people think it is silver). Bracelet and ring-not so much. They both stand out.

I wear a stainless OP as my daily. Goes great with whatever piece I choose to wear for that day.

Any more than one chain or ring at a time and it looks tacky. Unless you are made, own a night club or are in the import/export business.

I think a thin gold chain looks nice. My dad used to wear a gold necklace with a gold Egyptian pendant that my mom gave to him as a present.

Multiple large gold Cuban links would be tacky, however.
