I have had many chains in my day but eventually grew out of the bigger is better phase and realized weight is where it's at. No gold in the stable currently but do have a 950 platinum handmade link that weighs in north of 110 grams but is only about 3.5 mm thick. Whenever worn it is under the shirt.

The only gold jewelry I've owned was a wasit chain that my then boyfriend gave me after I had my naval pierced.

I loved it and wore it often back in the days when I was still clubbing but have not touched it in yeeears!

The only place I see big gold chains around the necks is in the men’s locker room in the gym.
They seem to be worn by a certain type of person only. e.g. a tad on the big aggressive muscular side.
Possibly connected with boxing as they seem to group around the suspended punch bags making a lot of noise and heavy breathing sounds.
Were they come from I no not and do not wish to know.

I was never a chain person but now I wear a small 18k white gold cross on a small 3mm white gold curb chain. I keep the cross tucked under my shirt. I wear it all the time and rarely take it off. I bought it for myself after a tough time in my life where things didn't look too good, and I prayed a lot. For me it just serves as a reminder. Don't care if others think its tacky, I like it and it means a lot to me.

Wear what you like and don't worry about it.

Fashion is really nothing more than marketers attempt to make people feel inadequate without buying their stuff.

Even if it is a waning trend or out of "style", in a couple of years it'll be back and you'll be the coolest guy in town again.

IMHO it depends on how it integrates with your overall fashion style. Also event dependent, etc. At some music events i attend it is kinda your standard dress code.

Now if you're talking about wearing a gold grill.... hard pass unless the event truly dictates wearing one.

It's just fashion and artistic expression and all that. It's not like wearing bell-bottom jeans or parachute pants. Perhaps some outfit styles are best left to being 'fashion history'.

My old gf gave me a 24k chain with a Buddhist pendant. It sits in a box in my wardrobe as I'm not a chain guy. I do keep it for sentimental reasons.

A lot of people where I live love to show gold so many wear gold chains, most with Buddhist amulets.

To be honest, I find them tacky on men. I wouldn't wear one myself. I prefer to buy gold in coins or bars as investments, although some gold jewelry is nice. You can always buy one and sell gold back to a dealer like Bullion Exchanges.

Gold chains for rappers or wannabe gangsters
cufflinks-for charlatans
watches for charlatans wannabe rappers and prestige showoffs

you see,, no way to wear jewelry outside the forum. LOL no i don't like gold-necklaces but i like cufflinks at some people(only if they are well-educated and looking like that) So myself excluded
Some real high end jewelry pieces like Breguet would fit a beautifull lady with a beautifull dress.. But than immediatly i pull out the golddigger card, i have absolutely no prejudices as you can see ROFL!

Ive been wearing a religious metal for nearly 50 years! (Under my shirt of course)It only comes off if it breaks and needs repair. My mom took it to Italy in the 80’s and had it blessed by the Pope. Not a religious nut, but I do believe!! Feel naked without it! I’ll wear it till the day I die.

I have a gold chain w/ a cross I received from my parents when I turned 18. Small, non-intrusive, gets worn under my shirt. Apparently my mom (or grandma) took it to Jerusalem to have it blessed some years ago. I wear it every day

they were big in the 80s, everbody including me had a chain, they dont seem so desired by men nowadays, rings were also popular, you still see quite a few on men.

I still wear my nautical anchor chains; one is a smaller 18kt chain and the other is almost 100 grams. I never wear them at the same time and never wear them outside a shirt. To each there own.

I as well wear one daily. It's also under the shirt with a cross that my late father gave to me when I was a teenager. I feel naked without it, I wear it when I play hockey and workout. The one time I forgot to wear it while playing hockey, I separated my shoulder, so it stays on!
