3970G vs 3970P?

Hi everyone.

I like the 3970 very much .

It would be hard to choose between the white gold and the platinum version. I do not have a platinum watch, so I like the 3970P more than the 3970G. But when I looked for the 3970 in Chrono24, I saw that the 3970P is more expensive than 3970G around USD 30K.

To be honest, I think there is only a little difference between WG and Platinum.

Does it worth $30K?

Thanks. I would like to hear from you guys.

Judging by your photos it is difficult to say?

There is usually a platinum premium for Patek watches. Each individual has to determine if the premium is worth it.

Most of the time, the platinum version is produced in less number, but I am not sure about the 3970 reference. The G version may have low production numbers as well.

Exactly this (as is most usually the case in relation to any comments made by Jon Jon).
For the record, I am voting P assuming it'd be the white/opaline dial. Stunning reference!

I think platinum is more difficult to work with which translates to a higher cost. I also think platinum is less easily scratched or dented when compared to gold.

True! The white dial with white gold/platinum is stunning.

Had the 3rd gen 3970(er) for years. Personally, the premium is overdone for the P version imho. It's a great timepiece and one of those (now) underrated vintage pieces. Am not caring about 'value' and am sure you know about the 36mm size and thick case dimensions compared to modern pieces. You'll love the hamburger. :)

Here's a wrist pic (wrist being 6.75").

3970P came with white dial or black dial over the years. Black is more desired by collectors and commands a higher price. Personally, as a white dial fan, I prefer the white dial.

Yes. I think the case and the dial of 3970 is much more better than the 5270. Also, I like this pusher more than the 5970 and 5270.
