5960 Owners

For those that own a 5960p. Are you happy with the watch? Have any decided to part with the piece for one reason or another? If so what was that reason?

I’m close to purchasing one with the grey dial and wanted to get some feedback on your experience with the watch.

I had owned that watch twice , first time not related to the watch , was due to the wife. Of course I am not with her anymore....
Second time , I used the money on that watch to get something else , can’t remember what. But after that I been close to buy it for a 3rd time !
If 5524 wouldn’t exist I probably would succumb to it.

Good luck

I had the black dial and sold to fund another piece. Grey dial is the "original" 5960P and you can easily source one at a very good price

I had original grey dial new out of sealed bag 6 years ago, within a month I noticed the power reserve was broken and would free fly with movement of my wrist.

Took it to stern agency nyc, waited 2 months And then got it back with same issue
Was a lemon

I do want another however and I’m actively looking at these great deals out there.

My experience wasn’t great but I think it was a rare case

I would probably jump on a steel white/silver dial if prices came back to ~30k again. This on a strap instead of OEM bracelet is very cool

Not P, but I have the R with grey dial. I am so attached to the aperture windows and bullseye chrono that I will never part with it.

I had the 5960p grey dial but ended up selling it. I often regret the move...it makes a great daily

Quite a beaut!

The 5960 is one of my grail watches!

What does your username stand for? Is it spoon engines and turbo chargers?

Thanks!

Back in college, I used to drive a turbocharged B18 built Honda civic, with some Spoon goodies (seats, cluster, rotors etc). This was about 15 years ago. I don’t have that car anymore but I just kept the username, it reminds me of good childhood memories.

Does schoolboy mean you are still in school?

5960 Stainless.

The whole 5960 line-up is officially retired.

Even though the stainless was retired a few years ago I'm thinking of purchasing a SS one if I can buy for a fair price with original box and papers.

Absolutely zero regrets! I've had my eyes on the 5960P and 5960/1A throughout the years, but after seeing the launch of the 5960/01G in 2017 there was no going back. The blue varnished dial, lifted seconds/chrono track, and three faceted frames around the calendar windows gives the dial a stunning depth. Though I'm only at 6 months of ownership, I find it incredibly hard to put this one down. I can see the 5960 sticking around for a while!

Best of luck! The 5960P is a beauty and can be had at a great price!

Wow that’s super cool. I owned a 1998 civic hatchback for a while.

Currently I own a 1993 Nissan 240sx with a sr20det engine (2.0 turbo)

I picked schoolboy because I’m a high school math teacher

Great looking watch. Have you thought about changing the strap. I’ve see some with blue calfskin or suede that looked amazing.

Thanks! I completely agree! I ordered the 5172G blue strap about a month ago, but given the situation i probably won't see it for a while.

I had the piece and sold it. I kick myself every day for that decision. It was such an amazing watch with great functionality. It would definitely be a watch I may pick up again in the future at the right price.

OP - if you’re considering the watch you get a ‘thumbs up’ from me.

Hoping to revive this thread as I’m on the 1 yard line for a 5960g.

For those with the blue, does it really standout as blue?

I tried on the 5960p last week and I can’t get over the lack of frames on the left and right date complications.

Open for comments, but I think the G is the one for me. But seems like platinum is the metal to have.

I have the steel white dial which I love. It’s my daily now.

I think this is a fantastic piece and just the right size for a me and my puny wrists.

The 5960p is gorgeous. But the 5960/1A is a long term hold for me, on my second one - I did not appreciate them enough for what they are initially.

Why buy and wear one?

Even at retail was a good value relative to the complications.
Discontinued,
Stainless Steel version: rare for complicated Patek,
Black dial version: rarest regular production variant (1 year),
Calendar dial layout carries to highest end - 5208p, ect.,
Patek invented the annual calendar,
About 40mm: classic useable size
Daily sports watch that is not a simple time/date.
Not a "hype" watch..which some like.
Downside: the lugs are long on the SS, so strap replacement takes some thinking.

I was about to but one (probably the same one you’re looking at ;)) from a TS. After reading a lot of reviews about movement trouble and how frequent it ends up needing service, I decided not to move forward
The look is beautiful but from what I read, it’s not the best PP when it comes to movement and accuracy

I’ve always wanted the 5960p but concerned about thickness and being top heavy. Any owners notice it being top heavy/unbalanced?

Never noticed the lack of frames before, but once you see it, you can't unsee it. It does bother me now. Lol.

I would have to disagree. I’ve been wearing my 5690/1a nearly every day for the past 5 years with zero issues, accuracy or otherwise. Same thing with my 5960p, although it’s not my daily wear. Caliber 28-250 IRM QA 24H is a very robust movement, and this watch likes to be used!

Right? Another user pointed it out to me and I’m struggling with it now...
