What if Calatrava models will be limited like nautilus?

is it possible?

They already were with the 5296. Very scarce before they were discontinued and this is reflected in the rising price on the used models of this reference.

Are they coming up with a new Calatrava lineup, since they discontinued so many in 2019?

Hopefully, something in the 37 to 38mm range.

They already are... when I was at the Salon in Geneva last month, they told me they have waitlist for calatrava now also.

Every model of 5296 was scarce? I have 5296r 001 - bought new from my AD in 2018 so this would be a good information for me:)

Seriously? On the other hand it works with nautilus - higher prestige and prices

Make a 42mm calatrava aka the 5522 and watch the entire watch world go freaking nuts!

That is an excellent question. 5296 discontinuation leaves a gaping hole in the lineup imo.

The 5522 was hugely oversubscribed, so anything with a good design, in SS and at a competitive price point has the chance to do well. All the things the AP Code did not get right.

Despite the outcry on this forum for smaller watches, the rest of the world wants a simple 42mm watch from Patek. The 5522 was a hit. I own one and it’s a great piece. If Patek would make more calatravas in the 42mm range it would sell like hot cakes. Not that they need the sales.

You have to be careful with thin bezels, they can make a watch look larger, thus a 42mm if it wears larger would be too big.

Fair enough but I’m certain Patek can handle it. They did with the 5524 and 5522.

I know I’m in the minority on this forum in liking 42mm pieces but every one that Patek has put our has done well. I hope to see more 42mm variants in the future in the calatrava line.

This is only sort of related but does anybody know what a good price for a new 5296R-001 (sector dual) is? I’ve been looking at picking one up but am having a really hard time pinning this down. Looks like it could be anywhere from $20k to $25k, but that’s a pretty big range. Thanks all!

Prices for this reference has been increasing since it was discontinued. Very good decision because it is a very nice piece. Price for a brand new watch is about 25$k, for used in good condition is about 23$k. Mine costed 24800$ - new, AD Germany - Berlin. This reference is very rare, more pieces for sale is in white gold...

Thanks and yours looks great! I’m getting offered one from an AD at full retail + tax (a tick under $29k) and I’d be getting a Pepsi also, which I guess is a good deal but I don’t really want a Pepsi and I feel like I’d be overpaying for the 5296. Hmm, tough decision.

My guess is the 5227 was the replacement. Although you can not get the sector dial. In reading one of Stern interviews, it appears it is only the stainless production which they are limiting, so as to not hurt their PM lineup.

Agreed. Thin bezels and flat cases make a huge difference. 37mm 5196 wears like a 38 or 39mm, 38mm 5296 wears more like a 39-40mm. 5227 wears even bigger - too big imo.

I own the 5296 sector dial in WG. One of the nicest sector dials ever made IMHO. To me, a piece like this is closer to what I think of as classic Patek rather than the much more popular and expensive steel sports models, which I happen to love too.

There is most certainly a wait list for the 5212A.

Fair enough - but that's a rare exception I think!

I think you can roll into any AD and pick up a 5227 in any metal anywhere! (it's beautiful but a bit big).
