A very special incoming (non Rolex)

I’d love to hear other’s stories about why certain pieces are meaningful to them.

Here’s mine:

11 years ago my dad was diagnosed with Carcinoid Cancer. After years of being misdiagnosed with annoying conditions that can be relatively minor, his cardiologist of all people suspected this often misdiagnosed cancer. After a few days of tests it was confirmed to be Carcinoid Cancer.

He battled for 6 years after diagnosis and likely for years prior to diagnosis. I was lucky in that I was able to spend more time with him and realize how important some things I took for granted were. It also put things in perspective whenever I felt like I was having a rough day.

You know how most cancers have a ribbon and/or a bracelet that is a certain color? Well, Carcinoid Cancer is called the zebra cancer. You’ll see a lot of zebra patterned items in support groups. I’m not too keen on the idea of a zebra patterned luxury watch but I thought this was perfect. Now, every time I look at my wrist a little smile and feeling of warmth hits me.

Such a great and underrated GMT, a great alternative to the difficult to obtain Rolex GMT models but every bit as good.....in fact better IMHO, METAS, 600m WR and anti-magnetic.

I'm also very sorry to hear about your dad but glad you made the most of things. Congrats on this incredible piece! It's a very special watch made even more so with the sentimental attachment it now symbolizes. Enjoy in good health!

Thanks to all. I have a BLNR which I love, but this piece is just special to me. The nato with the white stripe was what really ties it all together.

Thanks for sharing, having recently lost my mother your story resonates with me.

That’s a model that I’ve considered but never had the opportunity to try, I love the bezel, could I ask your wrist size? I know they are sizeable, do you find it works well on the NATO?

Great way of remembering. And I have to say, the best looking Seamaster I’ve seen. Black and white really suits this model.
