Patek 5167 + GMT Batman + 25K = Patek 5712 decision please!!

Good morning,

I have always been going around about either expand my rolex line or cut down to the top watch.

1. Process the trade 5167+ batman + 25K = get 5712 and chill for another 2-3 years and go after some basic SuB later.

2. Keep it as this and buy Pepsi Jubilee.

3. Keep it as this and buy Black Sub since the price is so close to retail, and wait a while safe money and Buy Pepsi Jubilee.

Ps: I tried Hulk and I dont like them.

Please let me know what you guys think about these solutions. I want to hear from you!!

#1.

My real advice is to keep the Daytona and get rid of everything else for the 5712. That would be a great 2 watch combo.

Number 1 sounds like a terrible deal. Are you getting the 5712R?

5712 1A stainless steel. I’m new to this patek price. And this is the deal that I’ve gotten it from dealers. Please suggest.

It's actually not super out of line. I can't do over 41k MSRP so that's just my problem.

Gray pricing wise, 68k asking for your 5712 1a and ask for your aqua is at 35ish. Just asking prices and i'm sure they have to make their spread

option #2

I'd never trade nice watches you already have for this overpriced piece.

It's hard to believe that this level of price is sustainable, and if it were myself to decide I'd think always in the way out when you you'd like to resell it.

It's always easier to move more price reasonable pieces. But it also depends if you really want this 5712, so my opinion does not include the unreasonable stuff ...

best

I can’t tell from your post if you really want the 5712 and if you’d be settling for the other options ...

I’d think through what you really want and then and only then make your move

5712 is an interesting piece and light weight and ultra thin. When I had the 5712, I was wearing it all the time. The bracelet is also very comfortable.

Keep the aqua and GMT and dump the rest. Aqua would be your daily, GMT is your beater and travel watch while the 5712 would be that special piece you're after.

When considering option #1, you've got to decide if you want a few higher end pieces or more medium end pieces. Personally I made the move from eight medium end pieces to two higher end ones and couldn't be happier.

Then from a monetary standpoint, you've got two perspectives
  1. If you go purely by MSRP, the price difference between the 5712/1A and 5167 is $21,320 ($41,050-$19,730) which is about the cash component of $25,000. So that's like giving away the Batman to complete the trade.
  2. If you go by secondary market prices, the difference between the 5712/1A and 5167 is about $40,000 ($75,000-$35,000), which I guess justifies the $25,000 cash plus $15,000 for the Batman.

So I'd consider option #1, but don't feel this it is any type of special deal.

I would lean towards #3. I would not want to buy the 5712 at the current used market price even though it may go higher from here.

It is not what you CAN get but what you WANT. If you don't love the aqua, let it go. Same for any of the others. Do you love the 5712 that much, though? I think you really need to figure out what you want, not what is hot in the market right now. I personally don't care for the 5712 and would not even do a straight up trade for the 5167.

I vote #1 assuming it is the 1/A model and not G or R.
You have had the Rolex's and you have had the Aquanaut, now it's time to go to the next level - you are not gonna want to go back to anything else after wearing the Nautilus bracelet.

+1

Thinking about that trade I am not too worried about the inflated value of the 5712. If the 5712 were to tank in a bad way the 5167 and the Batman will most likely tank as well, the Batman prob less so percentage wise, the 5167 possibly even worse than the 5712. I might minimize the cash component though by adding a few more pieces into the mix.

1 sounds like a bit too much of a premium to me, maybe trade the 5167 and sell the batman outright for more money than trade-in value? It really depends on how much you're willing to pay in value for the 5712. The market is strong right now for what you have, so it is a decent time to sell.

I already went to #3 myself guys. I was going to wait a little longer but AD that I left my name last Friday called that they have one Black Sub dated. So I jumped on it,and seems like they will try to get me Pepsi around Feb or March. I think 5712 maybe a little too much to lose for me. But thank you so much guys!!

Congrats, great choice! You can always sell any of the ones that aren't getting wrist time later. Enjoy it!

You did well. The Rolex pieces you have and the 5167 will always hold value. The 5712 and other Nautilus have been coming down in price and I think if you really want it , you can get it later for much less than 75k.

Thank you sir. I just can’t pull trigger on 5712. Its very pricy now. When I got 5167 I got from AD in 2017. So 75K shocked me!!

No way. Watches like the 5167 and 116710blnr bought at retail are more meaningful than buying into a watch well over market. You will feel like a chump. I have done it.
