Formal Introduction

I know I have posted a few times already but I never really took the time to introduce myself.

My name is Rich and just like you all I am fascinated with Rolex watches. Ever since I was a little boy looking at my Uncles gold presidential I always wanted one.

I own a small printing business where we do Screen printing, heat printing, embroidery and graphic design. As I side job/hobby I am into photography.

Many years ago about 15 to be exact I sold my Rolex DateJust two tone gold/silver to purchase a wedding ring for my wife. I was able to sell my watch to add to what I already had saved up and bought her a nice ring.

This past year out of the blue I started getting the rolex bug. Well we talked about it and times are much better now and she told me to go ahead and purchase a watch.

I just purchased an explorer II over the weekend and will be picking it up tomorrow from the jewelers. I was able to wear it for a couple of days but I had to drop it off this morning because they were going to refinish the bezel, the black paint was a little faded.

So that is my story and I look forward to getting to know you all and learn from many of you. Its been a long time since I had a Rolex and it seems like many things have changed especially prices WOW!!

Cheers!

Any chance of a before and after shot of the bezel. Would be interested to see the difference, and how the numbers came to be faded in the first place.

Welcome Rich. Nice Intro!
Was there a particular reason why you chose the Explorer as your "re-entry" watch?

I just really like the look of the explorer II , it calls out to me haha.

I my wife wanted me to get a gold and silver sub with the blue bezel and dial and I almost did. Here is the story. I went shopping around and I went to one jewelry store. They had the exact one my wife likes it they were going to put a new crystal and a new bezel insert and then sell it. Other thsn those two minor issues the watch was near mint. The last told me $4500. I almost put money down but thought let me check around for an explorer and I'll be back. They were going to service it anyway. This was on a Thursday. Well Saturday after talking with my wife she convinced me to get the more flashy Rolex. I called to the lady and she was not there. I asked the gentleman of I could go down and buy from him. Well it was sold and the gentleman told it sold the the same day and that she had priced it way to low. I guess she got in trouble for that and I kicked myself in the butt for not pulling the trigger that day.

So i called around and only one Jewlery store had a used explorer II they had just got it and serviced it and put it out on display. I rushed over there and almost lost it to a lady who was just about to buy it but decided on a datejust. Sooooo I pulled the trigger on what I thought was a good deal. They had it priced at $3950 and sold it to me for $3900 + tax.

My top choice was the 42mm explorer II because I just love the size and updated look and band. I can always upgrade later.

That's the story.

Welcome, Rich! If you have the "Rolex bug" you'll fit in just fine here! Be warned though....we are a bunch of enablers here and one watch can turn into many watches. It's just how we roll! !!!!
