5205r vs 5396r

I keep going back and forth. Any thoughts?

Both are nice watches but I prefer the cleaner aesthetics of the 5396. The day-month apertures on the 5396 are smaller than the ones on the 5205 though, so they are slightly more difficult to read. Some may like the double circles connected by the hour indicators on the dial of the 5205, but I prefer the simpler layout of the 5396 with the hour batons.

5205 for me.

Larger and more modern case design for my 7.5” wrists (40mm>38.5mm). Also the more legible and less cluttered calendar apertures make this my choice.

5205 is 40mm but with the concave bezel has the same or smaller dial as the 5396. Dial size contributes strongly to perceived watch size. Also 5205 is thicker. Thicker and smaller dial didn't work for me (8 inch wrist).

Really like both in RG, would probably favour the 5396 with Breguets.

If the 5205R is the black dial model, I largely prefer that one. Otherwise, I would go with the 5396R blue dial. I am not into the white/cream dial options in either reference.

If you would also consider white gold, it would be a much tougher call. I love the blue dial 5205G, the grey-breguet 5396G and the plain baton white dial 5396G. All beautiful watches.

Great to see some love for the annual calendars.

I have the 5396G, and I really love the 5205R. I really like the case design, particularly the lugs.
