Is the 5167A attainable?

I'm sure it's been asked a million times, but this is my first foray into Patek. Any chance at getting one at retail from an AD?

I don't have any relationship with a PP dealer.

Without spending on another Patek piece, you will find it very difficult. I was very recently in this situation and although I had lots of previous history with the AD I'd never bought a Patek from them. They told me that the Aquanaut, like the Nautilus was a 'reward' piece and that the wait for the 5167 was 4 years. She said if I were to buy a Twenty4 for my wife OR a Calatrava there and then she would be able to get me a 5167 on bracelet within a year and would be able to get me a rubber strap and clasp for it too.

She also mentioned that it was better to buy sooner rather than later as Rolex were getting a price increase in the next couple of days, (This was the end of September) and she predicted that Patek would follow suit. The increase never came to fruition and I managed to get an unworn 2017 5167a with only a small increase on RRP, justified by the fact there could be a rise soon and having sold a 2009 example recently at a very strong price I wouldn't be losing out.
Fingers crossed you find one. They really are amazing watches.

Highly unlikely here as well. I am in a queue waiting for my 5167 on a bracelet. Should hopefully get a call at the end of the year but otherwise a bundle deal might get you the "privilege" of buying one at retail.

I got one bit over 2 years ago from an AD without any wait or prior relationship. Things have changed now. ADs are still getting the pieces but now most of them want to sell the pieces to their existing customers.

I would find another AD if your AD was not able to get you a 5167A despite having a lots of previous purchase history. Is it WOS by any chance?

It’s very hard to get the aqua.. I am expecting my first nautilus in 2019 and asked about the 5167 also. My AD mentioned that getting a 5167a would push back my nautilus a bit while getting the 1a probably wouldn’t at all, so there’s that. I would advise to trying getting a bracelet version somewhere and just adding the strap? Still comes out cheaper than grey prices

So the bracelet version is "easier" to get?

What about the gold versions? Discounts available?

Yes, I believe they are much less popular.. I did not ask about the R versions so I don’t know but I would assume they are easier than steel. Discounts are probably still unlikely if they’re not in showcases

This is the route I took, I was told the bracelet was easier to get, and then I was able to add the strap... 3k more retail for the bracelet, plus the cost of the strap and deployment, but still thousands less the grays on bracelet and about the same as a used strap 5167.

Isnt it possible to put a rubber on the bracelet?

@OP: I'd say near impossible. The waiting lists are longer than ever and Patek's supply is less than ever.
