Nautilus 5711 rotor noise

I understand that 5167 and 5711 rotor has a buzzing noise when it is spinning. However, do you also hear a clunky sound when the rotor stops? It seems as if the rotor is loose. Just wanted to confirm if this is normal with 5711/5167.

Only the rotor. I've always wondered why Patek wouldnt fix this? Makes my watch sound cheap.

I have had my 5711 for several years and never heard any noise from mini rotor. I have also a 5327 w the 240 movement- quite as a church mouse.

I know what you’re talking about. It sounds like a piece of the gear train turning over at the end of the spinning cycle. Almost a clunking noise. My 5167 made that sound. My 5711 and 5726 did not, but did make the spinning noise.

I never thought it was something that needed to be fixed. It didn’t affect the accuracy. But it was a strange sensation. I don’t understand why Patek chose to have an annoying rotor.

I never hear a clunk, but I do hear the rotor, which I don't mind at all, and actually enjoy, as it reminds me the watch is a mechanical object.

For those of you with with 324 movements that do not hear the rotor, did you purchase your watches from an AD?

Thanks, that’s what it is like exactly. It seems some rotors make the noise and others don’t. Pretty strange.

Hello,

My 5167 started making what I considered a “friction” noise after a few years.

It has been with the service centre for the best part of this year after being returned several times without an explanation.

Current explanation is that it is the ceramic bearing that is causing the noise.

Apparently PP are sending out an old rotor to remedy the issue and i will be returned to me this month.

FYI. My 5711 which was purchased 2years after the 5167 does not make this noise only the ‘whir’ as expected with this movement.

Hi, can you explain this friction noise? Do you hear this when the rotor is spinning? When the rotor in my watch is spinning, in addition to the ‘whir’ sound, I also hear a clunky sound occasionally as if the rotor is touching the case or something else.

Good Morning,

Yes this is exactly my experience also.

In my opinion it is making contact with some movement part.

It does not spin and whir freely as others do.

The sound of the 324 movement is wonderful. But it should not have a clunky sound when it stops.

All of my 324 watches make an audible spinning sound. Search my post history and you’ll find a link I posted to a video of my 5167.

You can hear the spinning bec the mainspring is only wound when the rotor moves counterclockwise. When it’s moving clockwise and that’s why you hear the noise.

Normal, don’t worry.

Much more noticeable in the 5167 than the 5711, but still present.

Take the watch to an AD and see what they say...worst case scenario is it has to be serviced and you are without a watch for 3-6months

The buzzing noise - yes. The clunky noise - no. Take it to an AD.

This was the response that my AD provided, suggesting a full service.

However the full service did not rectify the situation and is still being investigated.

Some 324 SC movements are very noisy rotor wise and some are not. The steel transmits the sound better than PM. As frustrating as it is, its all normal. One of mine sounded like metal on metal. Had it checked and everything was fine.

By way of an update, I received my watch back (after 8months) and it has significantly improved.

Limited explanation other than it was sent to Geneva and required special intervention by PP.

Local PP service centre had originally suggested it was fine.

It certainly is not normal and requires attention if it is clunky
