Whats a good dial for DayDate Ref. 18238?

After selling my 2022 DayDate 36 I am looking to get a vintage one as I prefer the brushed lugs which give a less ‘in your face flashy’ look to the watch.

I like the ref. 18238 as that seems to be the best reference. Double quickset with great look.

For that ref are these the 2 best options or theres more ‘wow’ dials for this reference?

Those are the 2 simplest yet classic dials you can get.
But the sky is the limit on that model as there are lots of stone, diamond, and varied colors to choose from.

A good dial is the one you like, not anybody else.

I generally do not like Champagne dials as I find them hard to read, but they seem to be popular.

The "old" roman numeral dials are nice for double quick DD´s. Those exist in white, grey, blue...
Also the "computer" or "anniversary" dial is something nice and not that high priced. If money is not a big issue, go for a vignette, wood or early MOP dial.
Stone dials are actually not that much available (and if dial only, the dial is higher valued than a basic watch is).

There are lots and LOTS of 18238 dial choices - For a close-up view of some, you might enjoy this thread -

Yes, especially the white text ghost dials, but no 5-digits iirc.

“Less in your face flashy” but more “wow” is a line probably you’ll have to just feel - Tapestry or Jubilee dial? Pinball markers or stone with no markers? Oysterquartz? There are lots of small DD details that are often poorly documented, but none seem too wow-ish.

Some of the rare dials will cost more than the watch itself.

My absolute favorite Day-Date dials for the 18038/18238 would be the pyramid dials. There are two versions - one is black and the other is creme colored. Very unique. They aren't that easy to find with the black one being the hardest one to source in the secondary market.

The champagne dial is classic, think Tony Soprano. Have you considered a 18239? The silver dial with white gold sings to me.

Im still learning about the vintage DayDates after selling my modern ones ( DD40 rose with olive dial and DD36 with green ombre diamond marker dial)

I didnt realize why they felt off to me and I learned its because of the polished lugs. The vintage models had brushed lugs which looks way better then the in-your-face polished look.

The reason I like the 18238 model is the double quickset.
I wonder if they have this kind of dial on it as they did on the older models…

I’ve seen blue dials similar.

Also, checkout tropicalwatch dot com they usually have several daydates.

The variety of the 5-digit DD is mesmerizing. Here's a read about the details of some of them:

http://www.rolexforums.com/showthread.php?t=914456

It can be really hard to choose a dial. I ended up having more than one 5-digit DD...

Thank to you and everyone else in this thread helping me.

My only issue with older models the non current 6 digit DD’s is the eventual bracelet stretch if finding a mint one which isnt easy.
To me the bracelet stretch visually ruins the watch and reminds me if children’s teeth before wearing braces haha
