Why would you purchase something that you don’t want?

Honestly it’s a good sign your AD knows your name and is offering you a watch. I would use the opportunity to talk to him and politely decline the watch but express your interest why you were holding out for what you want. Its a perfect time to build a relationship so they know you are a focused collector with particular models and not just anything.

It’s a thick watch. If you don’t think it’s great then don’t buy it. Tell them you’ll wait and see what happens.

Just buy the watch you want, it is so tempting when the AD calls and says I've got ***** watch and thought you might be interested, do you want to come in and try it on?

With Rolex being so scarce at the AD the thought of if I buy this I might get that is very hard to ignore. But if you truly want a TT or SS Sky Dweller then stick to your guns and politely decline. It won't do you any harm, I sometimes think that this is a test to see how much you really want that one watch or are you a buyer with deep pockets who lusts after any Rolex.

Let me tell you what happened to me.. Last year I was offer 2 Rolex watches by my AD, a Air-king and a Milgauss. I turned down both as I am waiting for a Batman. It has been over 1 yr and have not been offered anything else.

This was 18 months ago I walked unannounced and really unknown into an AD which had no new watches on display. I asked about my interest, at that time a YM but was told none to be had and upon looking at the pre owned display and was offered a 116400 from the safe. I was quite surprised as a walk in to be cold offered but I also took a pass because it wasn’t what I wanted and why forsake a true buyer who might have their heart set on. Has it been blue faced and not black I would have taken it in lieu of a YM.

Since you have a purchase history with the AD and you would like a different watch in this case a Sky dweller, then tell the AD thank you for thinking of you and offering the Sea dweller, but you are respectfully declining this kind offer, and would like to be thought of when the next Sky dweller arrives.

Sadly. I did “get on a list” whatever that meant, my name and number went into a bound book with my interest. I was given a grimace on some but more of a nod on others. Never did hear back from them on any offering, so I gave up and went another direction. Don’t know why it mattered but they asked my occupation
