SLGA013 Tree Rings

I loved SLGH007 black tree rings pattern dial since it came out last year. However due its platinum material price, it is tough to pull trigger at GS with 50k plus price point⋯⋯ However, fast forward to Feb this year. GS comes out with SLGA013 with similar dark color tree rings pattern in SS did meet my budget better. Also it comes with a 5 days power reserve 9RA2 spring drive movement which also fits my need better. Fortunately I got one from AD two weeks ago since it is 550 piece limited edition and already out of order.

Besides its mesmerizing tree rings dial, it also amazes with several other aspects. This 44GS style design does make this watch shines more in both sides of the dial like two shining samurai sword blades. Also this 44GS watch design with its slimmer bracelet and new SS material does fit my wrist better than SLGH005 white birch and SLGA007 Suwa lake. So it has most of my wrist time so far. Of course, its Zaratsu polishing at hour markers and hour/minutes hands are impressive artwork as well.

Its dial color is not pure black but kind of charcoal black and will change to several different colors under different lightings. The only improvement needed is that I do wish the tree rings pattern can be deeper and easier to see under weaker lighting environments. It will look like pure flat black dial now if under weak indoor lights but will reveal its amazing tree rings pattern under sufficient lights. Overall I am quite satisfied with this SLGA013 GS collection. Look forward to seeing more innovative design from GS in the near future!

Nice score! Great watch. Even if your new one could be a perfect only watch, your “little” GS collection is fantastic.

Thanks for the nice comments. Indeed SLGA013 is a stealthy beauty though not as shiny as my other GS collections in the 1st impression. But will love it more day by day…..

Congrats. I've registered my interest in this piece at my local AD, but last I checked they hadn't received one (either that or they got one and sold it to someone more important than me).

Wish you luck to get AD call soon! SLGA013 is definitely a low key beauty but with all the hidden details for you to discover and appreciate daily. For example the following hidden pattern in its hour markers.

Congratulations! I’ve been mulling over getting the SLGA013 vs SLGA007 for a while. How would you compare the bracelet on this vs. the evolution 9 series? Without the taper, does it feel clunky? The 44GS case appeals to me but worried about it being a scratch magnet compared to the Evolution 9 case.

Since I have both of them, let me provide some feedback as follows:

1. SLGA013 bracelet is much more comfortable than SLGA007 bracelet, though SLGA007 bracelet as a whole is already little more comfortable than SLGH005 white birch bracelet already (maybe due to watch difference). So wrist comfort comparison is SLGA013 > SLGA007 > SLGH005/003

2. SLGA013 44GS case is definitely prettier than evolution 9 case and it may be scratch magnet but no issue for me so far about 3 weeks since I am more careful in taking care of my watch daily. So 44GS case is more preferable to me.

3. SLGA007 blue suwa lake dial is indeed more shiny than SLGA013 charcoal grey tree rings dial at 1st sight, but tree rings dial's beauty is more subtle and elegant in some sense.

Both SLGA013 and SLGA007 are good choices!

Hi, Is the 12 hour marker not centered or is ust an illusion from the camera angle?

Good eyes! It is mainly due to the camera angle since it is very difficult to capture the hidden pattern from top straight vertical angle.

Beautiful watch. I like that GS is moving towards dark background date windows. Never understood why they always have to be white on every watch. Wish my SBGE254 had a black background date window.

Thanks and good point. Fully agree with you that GS should be able to match their day window background color same as dial color to keep consistency and better sense of beauty.

It seems that there is a second wave of these hitting ADs at the moment, at least here in the US. I was told by one of the ADs that I use that the run was sold out. This was a little over a month ago. That same AD then received another one a couple weeks ago. I didn't get that one, but managed to get one 2 weeks ago from another AD who had received their allocation just 24 hours prior. It seems that the intrepid shopper still has a chance of getting one of these at retail with a little diligence.
