Tax question

Hello all.

Can I buy a Rolex in say Amsterdam airport and then claim the vat back as I am a uk citizen, then return to the uk and pay the uk vat on my return to the uk?

Would this work out at the watch being roughly the same price?

You should direct your question to HMRC, not TRF.

The Watches in Amsterdam airport are all duty free anyway

That's one approach, but I suspect HMRC would be extremely displeased and make the process very difficult if they found a passenger not declaring a brand new Rolex with box and papers.

The VAT should be factored into the cost of the purchase, which, to be fair, is what I think the OP is trying to figure out.
