The Mascot is a cab sauvignon that IYKYK. This 2013 bottle is well integrated and ready; smooth, lush, long finish, so many hints of dark fruits, spices and berries. IMHO one of the best cab sub $200.

Saturday evening. We are in isolation as Wife has acquired COVID from somewhere (everywhere probably). She has not been eating so I am at pains to find something to tantalise her palate. Nothing like a traditional Quiche Lorraine. I don't often make this but it remains one of my very favourite light meals. I team it with Acocado, cherry tomatoes and Beetroot. She enjoyed a small wedge. I had a bigger wedge with the side.
Wine tonight is my old standby, the excellent "Cat Amongst the Pidgeons" Shiraz/Cabernet Sauvignon 2018. A lovely balanced fruity full-bodied red that I enjoy as an easy quaffer for a night at home.

^^ Yum! I love quiche.

This one was just OK. Bought two on a whim from an online wine service years ago. It definitely needed a lot of time to open up and it tasted better at the end of the meal. Will be interesting to see how it tastes the 2nd day. Glad I only bought 2 bottles.20220416_113619.jpg

Great looking and probably tasting Quiche.. one of our favorites. The wine sounds excellent too. Hope the Mrs is feeling better. That Covid is still everywhere....Ugh.!!

Thanks Thomas. After fighting COVID with many restrictions the government has just thrown in the towel and said "Live with it". People have gone nuts and are congregating in large gatherings without any protections with the attitude that they will just accept whatever consequences result. Older folks are obviously going to bear the brunt of this irresponsibility, but Hey, who gives a shit about the elderly anyhow?

Tremendous value if you can get a hold of it. This has the Harlan pedigree, what can you say? Top notch.

Opened this one tonight for a midweek Italian dinner to celebrate my 50th today. Duckhorn really knocks it out of the park with some of their blends and I like the Paraduxx line. This one is a 2006 and it tasted every bit as good as it did when we toured the winery in 2009. It aged really well. This weekend I'll bring out a heavier hitter for steaks on the grill.20220420_210923.jpg

Sometimes it’s more about the setting than the wine. Happy Friday from our ranch in Montana.

Enjoyed this interesting blend in Mexico last night. About $65 usd in restaurant and $34 at vineyard.
Valle de Guadalupe wines are getting so good!

Vintage: 2019
Assembly: 50% Sauvignon, 30% Merlot and 20% Malbec.
Origin: El Porvenir, Valle de Guadalupe, Ensenada, Baja California, Mexico.
Base: Mix of iconic French varieties, adapted to our vineyards.

Bright garnet red color. Intense aroma of black cherry, plum and black pepper. Dry on the palate, balanced, with polished tannins and notes of toast, black cherry, plum, black tea and anise. Long and round aftertaste. Ideal to pair with intense cheeses, cold cuts, lamb and fatty cuts.

Opened this Papillon with steaks on the grill for Mother's Day. One of my absolute favorites and I always make sure to have a few bottles on hand. So good!
