Well since you are worried about being kidnapped, how about you email and then report back to forum with what you find out?

What are you trying to accomplish by setting up a visit? Rolex shortage is world wide. You won’t be offered anything. Go enjoy your trip and stop wasting time in an AD

I did not know Canadians rolled like Americans traveling overseas!

Great post!

I'm debating between e-mailing them to let them know I'm coming vs walking in.

Logic:
1) E-mail first:
- allows them to prep an English speaker for me
- perhaps even hold/prepare some stock for me (fantasy I know)

2) Walk-in
- so Cartel won't have enough time to arrange kidnapping me

What do you guys think?

Anybody here have experience with ADs in Colombia?

Thanks.

The king shall be arriving to take home your luxurious treasures! .

But seriously, i wouldn’t even bother walking in to one. Unless it was next to a restaurant i was going to and the window was filled with cool pieces, not worth the effort.

No need to email, just show up. You never know what an AD has or what they are willing to do until you walk in the door!

It always amazes me that people assume that when they go on holiday they will find an AD on their travels that has a safe full of watches just waiting for the tourists to arrive. Do people not realise that Rolex watches are sought after all over the world and not just in their home country.

This is a good point. They may bring out something they are holding if you pay in US$ cash.

The US is a foreign country to most of the world. I don't think the diplay cases are any less empty for foreigners.

Unfortunately, you set yourself like a bowling pin on this one. And the peanut gallery couldn't resist. So just toughen your chin and don't take it personally.

Questions are welcome, and I ask a lot myself, but next time just ask a simple question and let the complicated answers roll in. Avoid the multifaceted questions - especially like the "cartel" question.

Enjoy your vacation and don't ruin it by thinking about watches.

I was just in Colombia last month... it was pretty useless as I got the sense they'd reserve any stock for local clients (without them saying that bluntly).. you can stop by but I didn't have any luck.

And on the Cartel pt.. uncalled for TBH especially seeing that people in Oakland seem to be getting robbed and mugged daily and that isn't a "foreign country" for those that live in the States.

Np. And for your reference, I sent them a whatsApp msg ahead of time expressing interest and that I'll stop by to try my luck. They didn't say anything over text but the rep told me in person there's many "regular customers still waiting/supply situation is bad". This was in Cartagena because my hotel was a block away from the store.. I didn't try in other cities however. I think I saw on reddit someone picked up a new watch at an AD while traveling so hope your luck is better than most !

FYI, since I know the store in Bogota well, they have an explorer 1 display model for show. That's about it.

Now I saved you a visit.

They always think that the small/faraway country will have stocked shelves since no one in that small/faraway country has money to buy a Rolex so they are reliant on those rich tourists coming to town and saving their business.
