An aid to old eyes

I’m sure I’m not the first to have added a cyclops but wow does it help. Just waiting for the cement to fully harden before scraping off the excess.

Sorry I have old eyes but I couldn’t do that, for how often you need to know the date I would use my phone

The parallax in this photo doesn’t help to prove the location is right. Just saying. If you photo each watch separately, that is the way to show that is properly positioned. I’m sure you placed it right. Best to you.

Grant,

Hope ya' got your flame suit on. The purists are gonna be out with pitchforks.

I did the same on my THC. Although it's now at RSC and I'm sure they will replace the crystal.

As long as you're happy, that's all that matters. The rest will have to deal with it.

I say whatever helps you enjoy the watch, do it. I personally wouldn't do it as I like it as is. But if you're happy with it, it's all good!

Why don't you take a hammer to it next?

As far as I can see, it should be simple to laser weld the edges of this onto your case.

If you're got it correctly aligned it's a modification I'd be happy with. I'd rather glance down at my watch for the date than get my phone out and wake it up. Small date windows don't work for me any more.

I once had a Tag with a cyclops lens and it was useless. There's more to it than just adding one. Rolex have it down to a fine art, although theirs can vary. The depth of the date disk on the Sky Dweller makes it harder to read in all conditions compared to s Sub Date, Explorer 2 or a GMT Master.

Placement looks off to me but I don't see what the big deal is, it's on the crystal, crystals are replaceable.

Once you get it centered properly I think it's a really cool modification that is functional. Kudos to you!

Tudor's date window is closer to the dial's edge and the domed crystal doesn't help either. I would really like to see more pics from a different angle. I'm also thinking of doing the same.

OP, where did you source the cyclops and the adhesive?

Did you try to align the right side of the cyclops with the minute track or did you place it at the edge of the crystal? Or, did you try to center it with the date window as best as possible?

For those that need the date on a watch, what do you do that you need it? Checking the date in the morning and remembering doesn’t sort you out for the rest of the day?

Used to keep daily handwritten Ship's logs. Several of them and required good focus as it was too easy to make a mistake. Always convenient to glance at a magnified date on your watch. Now I'm no more keeping any logs but I guess old habits die hard...

Done similar. It took multiple tries to get it right. The first mistake was to allow if to float on the UV curing glue which resulted in undercut when removing the excess. Second time I pushed it down until it made contact with the crystal fully. It cleaned up much nicer. The excess glue which was left on after removal was soluble in IPA and was removed before the second try.
