The issue is one can always trade a watch as these hold their value. I tend to hold watches that have real meaning in some way otherwise they become disposable kind of like a smart watch.

What will you enjoy wearing more? That’s all that counts.
So if you like the 2 tone sub better, which it seems like you do, it was the right move. Don’t let the haters pull you down.

Traded BLNR for Two Tone Sub

Here is my opinion. They're both great watches and you got to experience both for the price of one. That's the magic of Rolex. Don't look back.

duh guess reading isn’t your thing…

my comment stands as what makes him happy is more important than what makes his friend happy.

also what more is there to say, when he’s made his decision? it’s not like he’s going to reverse it…

Good move, I also recently sold my new BLNR for $25k and I have the two tone with black dial. I like it as a daily wear. I have the all gold bluesey and all gold root beer for dressier occasions.

My opinion is after enjoying both for a few years the TT LN calls to me so much more than the BLNR. So much so that my Father enjoys the BLNR now, great pick up and enjoy your Rolex journey

You did well OP!

Pretty soon you'll be able to buy a BNIB BLNR with that 'profit' you made

Very nice profit, plus you have now what you really wanted, so don’t get big by your friend’s opinion !!

You did very well IMO. You got top dollar for your GMT and got the watch you like at a very reasonable price. Don't look back. You have nothing to worry about.

They’re both great watches, the better one is the one you prefer. Other people’s opinions… you did the right thing.

You sold a watch you didn't want for a good profit, bought a watch you really like and pocketed the difference. Good result. Congratulations on your TT Sub. All you need now are better friends.

In a falling market you reduced your Rolex exposure to price risk. There is a famous banker’s quote “no one went broke taking a profit”. Enjoy your new Sub, looks great. I am thinking of selling my 116503 to do the same thing.

You may have beat the buzzer on a recession/ stock market collapse and obtained maximum gains on your BLNR.

Would have done the same thing if I was in your position. Both beautiful watches but that 25k is hard to resist not cashing out

You sold at a great time and made profit on a watch that is really nice, but definitely overrated. I think you timed it perfectly and made the right move out of it.

Now would I have gone with the TT sub? No. But if you get the watch you love and have 9k in your pocket, that sounds like a no brainer. Just know that the TT sub won't be trading over retail forever so surely you'll eat in to that 9k profit later down the road.

Your friend focused on the investment side. The BLNR is more popular, so yes it will increase in value more. SS Rolex sports models, especially GMT, Daytona and Submariner in particular are in high demand. In comparison, I had 3 TT blue subs, sold them all back, got them all pretty quickly.

That all being said, that doesn’t make one better than the other. I could made the case for the TT being “better” as it has some PM. Bottom line, you got the watch you want and you got 9k back! Sounds like a great deal to me. I am not in this for the investment, in it for the love of the watch I wear. So IMO it was a good move.

I have the BLNR, had many different Rolex’s, and have to say it is the best one I have ever owned, including my current 124060, former bluesy, root beer, 3 different datejusts (white, black, blue jubilee and fluted sticks). Especially on jubilee, the BLNR is an amazing watch. Worth 25k? I would never pay 25k for it, but I wouldn’t buy any of them over MSRP!
