Very good one!

… “or a Rolex owner scored”… LOL.

OP, I’m sure it will be fine. Although it does take a complete lack of attention to miss those marks at RSC. I’ve opened a lot of cases, as a hobbiest, and I’ve never done anything like that, despite my relative inexperience.

I would be nice and hope they replace it - highly likely. If not - pay for a new one and move on from this and doing business with them.

Think it’s the only RSC in Canada

You could have it done in the states. I have had a watch serviced in the UK twice. Easy just paperwork.

A new case back must cost very little. Regardless of what they say, get a new one put on

Why doesn't RSC takes some photos of the case/bracelet prior to the work?

It's a common practice with IWC Service center anywhere in Europe ..

I was about to write one of those "Don't sweat it" posts, thinking you were referring to the tiny scratches near the red arrows.

Then I looked at the photo again and realized it's a massive double-track gauge that goes all the way around the case back.

They can't possibly give you a hard time about that. They must fix the situation.

RSC Dallas scratched up my Cellini caseback in 2018. I was pretty mad about it, because I bought it NOS and just took the sticker off stupidly before I sent it to them. It arrived back to me with a lot of micro-scratches and swirls.
They originally offered to polish for free or replace the case back for $1,400.
I told them that I didn't want to polish a watch I just bought, and they should replace the caseback for free. After some convincing, they just that on an exchange basis.
I wish I hadn't because now I have a different serial number, and they wouldn't update the warranty card--just gave me a letter stating the caseback was swapped.
Rolex will "make it right" for you hopefully.

I wonder what the pitting is from near the brushed and polished bevel?

Thanks for sharing…the price of $1400 must have been because it was gold?

I didn’t know that the casebacks had the serial number - perhaps it’s only for gold models?

This was a 2005 Rolex Cellini 5115/8. I believe this model always had it on the caseback.

Regarding the cost, yes--it was because it was gold. I asked about a new caseback for a different situation with my 2019 GMT (completely unrelated to anything they did), and they advised a new caseback would be about $220 I think.

Those small scratches were likely there when i bought the watch in, although I’m not 100% sure…but if it were just those scratches i don’t think I’d complain about those.

One would think that they should not give me a hard time…we will see!

Ah i see…is the serial on the outside or inside side of the caseback?

$220 for the steel caseback…not too bad, but not that cheap either…

Outside, along with a couple other engravings.

Yeah, I wouldn’t want to pay $220 in your case. That’s like a dealership damaging your car and asking for you to pay for it.

Not too sure, but the appearance of pits may just be a result of the very zoomed in photo…here’s a photo from a more normal viewpoint:

I don’t think there’s pitting, but i could be wrong…

Hi all

An update to this situation - I called Rolex Canada today and emailed pictures of the caseback.

Much to my relief, they are going to replace the caseback with a new one. I did not have to fight for this result - they immediately offered this solution over the phone after examining the photos.

Going into RSC Toronto this Friday to get the caseback swapped while I wait!

So my faith is (somewhat) restored in this RSC.

Thanks all!!

Great news! I would try for some goody or swag for your hassle factor. Never should have left the shop looking that way.

It is a bit of a hassle to have to drive down there again - but to be honest I'm just relieved they didn't give me hard time on this one.

I did already get the latest catalogue when I picked up the watch - let's see if they offer anything else!
