Nice 2 Rolex collection. If I were to have 2 this would be it. (Explorer I 124270 and Submariner)

Correct me if i'm wrong, but don't both of these have, pretty much, the same dial/crystal size? One has added moveable bezel, one doesn't.

Does every collection need an Explorer 1?

I think an exp is definitely a must have if you have more than 1 Rolex. It’s great a low key piece. I wear my Exp 36mm everyday @ work in the ER. It goes unnoticed, doesn’t get in the way, and looking at it from time to time relieves stress.

I don’t like “must haves” because I can think of at least four Rolex must haves, two Omega must haves, two PP, 1 AP, and so on, which is daunting for the newer collector who feels they have to spend $109k before they even start buying watches that sing to them.

Yes, if you're anti complications.
I've got a sub no date and an explorer 1 and I wouldn't mind adding an older airking and perhaps a white OP.

Not for me. 39 maybe, but the 36 looks a bit small IMHO

In Short yes. Or perhaps 2 ex 1. 39 and 36. Love them both.

I don’t think every collection needs an Explorer. For those who collect/accumulate multiple watches, especially sport watches, the Explorer will often be redundant.

That being said, as a stand-alone watch the Explorer is outstanding. For a non-collector wanting a low-key but very satisfying Rolex, the Explorer is a top choice

If i can pay 6K at Rolex AD and get only 1watch which i cannot sell for life.

I will buy Explorer 1 36mm.

No need Daytona, GMT, Sub, etc. even i can buy at 1K, I also don't want to buy.

I like it's looks a lot but would miss the timing bezel of my sub which I use at least once a day.

MSRP for Explorer I is $7,200. Good luck getting it at $6K.

Every collection should be different. For me, the explorer 36mm is the next plan for my collection. Do i need it? Nope, but i like it.

No, every collection does not need an Explorer 1. But mine does.

An Explorer must be included in your collection. In my opinion it wouldn’t look complete.

It's a cool watch. And out of all the entire Rolex line up, if I could have only one, it would be the explorer.

The Explorer is low key, most legible and comfortable. Some may call it bland but I'd call it a clean design with the amazing 3, 6, 9 dial and upside down triangle. It will go with everything.

It would be the first in my collection, ahead of the GMT, Submariner, etc.

I had one in my collection but traded it away. Something a bit off w the 39mm dimensions and got bored with its. Wanted to love the new 36mm but when I tried it on, it was just too small for my taste.
