Cold called an AD and got a DJ41

First post here after being a lurker.

Recently cold called my local AD with no purchase history. Explained I been looking for a DJ41 in slate. He basically stopped me right there and told me to go in.

Now a proud owner of a DJ41 in slate, smooth bezel on oyster. I actually love this combination as a daily driver. Originally was waiting for a OP41 in blue but this will do.

Not sure if this is common, but hopefully helpful to someone here.

"this will do"
No sense getting what you want so long as it's a Rolex.

Haha the DJ41 is close enough to the OP as a daily watch. Couldn't turn it down at retail.

Congrats, OP. Vancouver is a very difficult market and you got a solid timepiece.

How did we get to a place that people are excited to pay full MSRP for anything that says Rolex on the dial?

I wonder if the OP made a list of his most desired references where this configuration would be on the list.
My guess is not even top 25.

Are you trying to tell me a person, in 2022, looking to purchase a watch, contacted a watch dealer and said dealer had watch available to buy and completed transaction???. Within hours!!????

Congrats on purchase

Always hard to decide how long to wait for what you want, vs getting something sooner that may be close enough. I suspect you won’t miss the OP. I really appreciate having a date function. I have a BB 58 blue that I pretty much stopped wearing to work. Now it’s WE’s & vacations, but it’s an excellent reference. YMMV

Slate DJ41 is a fine watch. I have a black face and like it a great deal.
Congratulations!

He seemed to be at least part way there straight away...
