Another 14060M review

I have owned 6 Rolex watches over the past 10 years: A 16233 Datejust, 14060M, 11610, 114270 Explorer, 14060M 4 liner COSC and sold them all for one reason or another. Finally I bought another 14060M 2 liner "Y" serial circa 2002, with box and papers , etc.
I made this decision after thinking hard and long about what watch symbolises for me,the essence of Rolex and it came down to the 14060M 2 liner. Its high gloss, black symetrical dial, slightly slimmer case than the 16610, the simple aluminium bezel as against the very expensive , and brittle ceramic bezel on the 114060 is an added attraction. I had the 14060M with the engraved inner ring , but I find the plain non engraved inner ring a little less blingier than the ceramic subs. Sure its not COSC certified but it still runs within those standards, but ultimately will it affect my life if it doesn't? Much has been said and written about the flimsy band of these models and how much better the glidelock system is and I agree that the glidelock feels more substantial, but does it work any better? I dont think so . Not only is it very , very expensive its more complicated and I have heard that some have fractured. The 14060M 2 liner is for me the perfect watch. I can wear it to work without attracting too much attention, washing the car, swimming, mowing the lawns, fishing, riding my motorcycle, going to church, surfing in Hawaii, painting the house, and a quick wash under the tap and its good as new. It is my constant companion.
Dont let its simplicity fool you. . It is a beautiful watch with a rich heritage that I am proud to be associated , purely through ownership.
It is one of those watches that grows on you and I find the longer I have it the more I appreciate it. More than once my wife has commented: "You are not looking at your watch again are you??"

Hope you like it

Pardon me. Please accept my apologies . I am devastated that I upset your vast knowledge of Rolex watches. I will be far more careful in the future to ensure that I don't misrepresent Rolex or my self, even if unintentionally, by what I write. I would never cope emotionally if I were to be sued by Rolex for making such a huge mistake.
Funny though, once owned a 14060M which was a 4 liner cosc . Maybe Rolex made a mistake is calling it a 14060M ?
A word of warning to other posters: Do not, I repeat do not, make such a mistake as I have done, lest you incur the wrath of Karbo !

Karbo's message

Thanks Karbo for the gracious reply to my somewhat " caustic" response to your initial post. Please accept my apologies. I had just come out of major facial surgery for a cancer and was not thinking straight.

I promise I wont do it again!

cheers ( and in a better mood now)

This is my first posting on this forum and I have probably wasted many hours of my life reading endless postings on Rolex wrist watches.

However I have to say that your posting struck a cord. Your watch is simply superb and 10 out of 10 for choosing a watch that fulfils its purpose and yet appears simply elegant and understated.

I hit the old age of 65 in January and decided to treat myself to an every day watch and I chose an Explorer1 because of its understated appearance and something that goes with formal and casual wear.

You have now got me thinking, should I have chosen your model.

You carry on wearing it and above all, enjoy it.

Regards

Mick

No, Mick, you should not second guess your choice. The Explorer I is a terrific watch, for all the reasons you mention - simplicity, versatility, durability. I love mine, it gets most of my wrist time. You could, however, consider a second watch! Cheers,
