The crown on my B2 recently fell out so I sent the watch for a service estimate. The estimate came back with close to $5k of work including a new movement as the old one has signs of rust. The original watch cost me just over $2k so this seems expensive to me. Interested to see if anyone has had a similar experience?

No, and yes the cost does appear quite high, but it depends on what is going on with the watch. You mention rust, did water get in and then it sat for an extended period? How bad was it. A typical service (typical meaning not replacing everything) runs about $800-1000.

Also did Breathing give you that estimate or a local watch maker?

Excellent question, I too wonder if it was Breitling or a local watch maker who quoted that. For $5k, I'd buy a brand new watch.

This came from Breitling. I’ve attached a breakdown of the charges.

The watch was functioning fine before the crown dropped out so I’m not aware of any water damage or rust. At this stage it’s doesn’t look economic to repair the watch unfortunately.

Purchased it new in 2007 and should have left it less than 15 years to service.

Yeah, don't put $5k into it. That's a tough situation. I'd probably see if a local watchmaker might be able to source a second hand movement and do it for much less? I'd hesitate before putting anything over $1k into that watch.

If you really love it, i would buy another one for $2500-3,000 before i put 5k into a 3k watch. I have to imagine there is a watchmaker out there that can fix it for less than $500.

Worst case scenario it can still be a very good looking piece of jewelry.
