Heck no, hard pass - keep the AP, wait for Daytona at retail - win win

Nah, i'd just take add the AP bc you already have the white daytona.

The 15550ST in white is a starter piece in that family. It's like the white datejust 36. But you gotta get started somewhere.

I wouldn't do this trade.

If you keep secondary market prices out of the equation here you can quickly see that this wouldn't be a good deal. You won't be paying anywhere near the presumed "value" for the 15550st anyway and I don't believe anyone is actually shelling out 30k for a Daytona or 40k for a 37mm RO atm.

If you look at MSRP (I only know European prices), you would be losing from the get-go - not by much, but still - and you wouldn't even swap BNIB from what I can tell.

From a horological as well as exclusivity perspective this is absolutely no contest. AP is simply in another league. Hype aside I sincerely believe that the Daytona is pushing it at MSRP already, more so than the AP does.

From a collection standpoint, I'd also pass. You already own a Daytona. In addition the black one is a lot less desirable than the white one. So if you are not dead set on collecting a matching set of Daytonas, I see no point in getting another one. The AP is also more versatile imo, being less sporty than the Daytona, without it being too formal.

Granted I do see times returning, where you don't have to pay MSRP for 37mm ROs, but then again, if they do, you'd probably also be able to bag a Daytona for considerably less money. In case you have good rapport with your AD you might even be able to get one from them at some time, you might even want to think about upgrading to a PM then.

Fair trade. I love AP but prefer the black Daytona over the 15500.

Tough one. As others have stated, it boils down to which one you want on your wrist.

Since the wife has commandeered the white (lol), that might sway me toward the Daytona. Might.

I have a 15500 silver dial and I would definitely not trade it for a Daytona - it's just a different animal on the wrist. You may want to wear it for few days/weeks and then reconsider before doing the trade.

If somehow you need the cash, then that's another question...

Keep the RO, it's much more special & don't risk your relationship with AP.
You could still get a Daytona at retail but the RO with that rotor will be gone in a couple of months.

Make sure you see the AP in person, it’s hard to capture how spectacular this watch is in pictures. AP future secondary market valuation hard to predict. The 15500 will most likely be discontinued and replaced by the 15510. Daytona is a completely different watch compared to the RO.

I think it is boring and odd looking. I don’t get the nuts and bolts look. I think they are one of the ugliest watches out there. I have seen them in person. Yes the finish is amazing. But a great finished set of nuts and bolts doesn’t do anything for me. The dial looks like outdated bathroom tile as well. It is a status symbol and well built though, I’ll give it that.

Your comment is so funny, you need to post on AP forum.

I love both brands. I feel that Rolex give us a lot more for the money that we pay for.

If you don't have any other AP, it's a nice sport watch to add in your collection. Especially that you already have a white Daytona. You can always a black dial Daytona down the road when price will be will even lower.

I put my interest down in March and got the watch in July. I visited the AD a few times in between, just had a conversation with the SA and was honest that I just really want one in my collection. I also think they want new customers to own some pieces.

I would NEVER trade an AP for a Rolex.

Not at all in the same league.

Between the two watches, the last one to leave would be the Daytona.
The AP is really beautiful, very well finished and well made but there’s something mythical about the Daytona. Perhaps I’m a sucker for the Daytona hype, but its link to racing and its history dating back to 1963 do make my heart skip a beat sometimes. I enjoy wearing both though so there’s no right or wrong decision tbh.
