Wow. What an absolute treasure. The 6538 and 5510 big crowns are my absolute grail. Beautiful watch. I would love to see more pics.

I think I was 26, it was a 2 liner 14060 and I paid about $3k for it. Was a huge purchase for me at the time. I sold it about a year later (for $2,800) to help fund a 1675 I had found which cost me $4k.

39 and was gifted an 116610LN by my beautiful wife for our 10th wedding anniversary. Summer 2017 and it was just at the start of the SS craze. It took a few phone calls and some luck. I was almost in tears the day we picked it up together, but I'll save that for another post!

I got my first Rolex, a 16710, when I was 25, which was pretty close in time to when OP started this thread.

16 year old thread…anyhow, here goes…

I was 24 when I picked up my first Rolex, a TT Submariner black dial. Over the ensuing 30 or so years quite a few more…

The first Rolex I wanted was different to the one I ended up with. I wanted a SS Daytona white dial but they were unobtainable from ADs, even back then.

I was 34 when I got mine. Been collecting since I was 21 but was late to the Rolex party. People will find it hard to believe but I called in to browse various models and the sales assistant recommended I buy a green sub. It gets better, I couldn’t decide between that and the blue/black GMT so he offered me 24 months interest free credit if I bought the two of them. Little did I know how popular both models would become. Things were certainly different back in 2014.

1982 , I was 14 I bought my first new Rolex in Paducah Ky at Michaelsons jewelers they were an AD . My uncle was Co owner with his brother . $ 550 is what he let me have a new stainless datejust for. Brand New old green sticker on the back , I wore it in 10th grade ,, nobody knew what it was nobody cared. But I thought it was badass. I’m 54 now and mostly wear a sub, I dont dive and nobody cares but me.

49 years old... just last year.

I always thought I would have a Rolex by 40, but it just didn't work out financially. My wife and I chose to have her stay home with our four children and saving for college became priority. We were paycheck to paycheck for a number of years as I was furloughed twice from my job during the 9-11/ dot com bust era.

Kids are now pursuing degrees (one left at home), wife found a good job to keep her sanity, and I'm in a comfortable place in my career finally.

So as much as I would have loved to have worn the crown when I was younger (with more hair), I've had a blast the last few years playing catch up. My collection now includes Tudor, Omega, GS, Longines, and of course my wonderful 126710BLNR that I added in January.

No regrets.

My dad passed in 2020 and he didn't get to see my first Rolex. He was a watch lover but never invested in actual time pieces. I got my first Rolex (41mm Sub Black Dial) in March of 2022, and he would have loved it. It's awesome we have this passion to share with our loved ones. I think of him every time I look down and see his invictas he left me, and I think of him when I look down and see my Sub. I actually wear his cheap watches more than my better pieces because I work in a metal shop.

23 years old. Bought in 1983 a new GMT Master with a Jubilee bracelet. Purchase price was around $900, and I received a 10% discount because I paid with cash. Those were the good old days...

I was 29 and after college got my first real job and bought a Daytona 6562.
It was on sale for $400 markdown from $500. It was a Christmas present to my self in 1976 and still have it today. I wore it everyday until I bought a new sea dweller about 6 weeks ago. So it’s resting for awhile.

45 years old....fisrt Rolex

I've been collecting watches since I've been 12 but didn't own my first Rolex (GMT Black Bezel) until I was 45. I've since purchased another piece from my AD back in March (SD43).

43 here. I needed to roll through a few Longines and a Panerai before I got the Rolex bug. Ended up with an 116610LN. Have worn it daily for close to the last 6 years.

Milestone Purchase @ 38yrs Old

38yrs old.

It was the 116610LV; got it as milestone gift for when i paid out my first mortgage. I promised myself I wouldn't get my first Rolex till that milestone was achieved.

I have since bought 6 pieces and currently have 4 in my collection with quite some still on my list to get [Explorer II, Daytona, DayDate et al]
