Disappointing on a new purchase for sure. Never happened to me.
I'm sure they'll do what's needed to make it 100%. Congrats on a great reference!

If you are going to have it serviced I would not let a local guy do it, it has to go to the RSC.

Nothing more deflating than purchasing a new Rolex only to have problems. Went threw this twice ( 2 different watches) in late 2020 and early 2021. I was thinking, okay things happen and let them repair the watch. But this was just the beginning of a nightmare. After the third time back to back visits to the RSC, I just moved on.

Sorry OP, that sucks. At least they will make it right under warranty.

Had the same thing happen to an Oris years ago and has been running great since.

Every watch gets serviced eventually. Shouldn’t impact the value.

Was this independent watch maker “Rolex Certified”?
That’s kinda a big deal with a Rolex under warranty. The watch maker can be a independent but must be vetted/certified by Rolex to touch a Rolex watch under warranty.

Deep Sea and Sea Dweller are supposed to be RSC only. Even authorised Rolex service centres are supposed to return the watch to RSC.

OP you need to have a word with your AD before letting this escalate.

They should be able to fix it! Maybe the watch was not handled properly and something came loose? A watch maker should be able to fix it relatively quickly

This. Ten years ago you could get a replacement. Now unfortunately you have to go this route. Crappy situation but Rolex will make it right.

Possible the OP is in the LA area and AD is referring to BHRSC?

Nobody / Nothing is perfect, and "stuff happens."
Rolex will fix it and you will be whole again.
A few years from now you will not even think about it.

If the 'Rolex watchmaker' can't fix it. Don't like the sound of that at all, especially on a new purchase SD43.

My Rolex AD are accredited for service and parts too but they have to send in Daytona, SkyD and the deep dive pieces.

It's the law :D

Never mind. Just saw where OP said that second line of defense was Dallas RSC. I'd make that the first stop, if going the service route (vs requesting some other remedy).

Did you check out the watch completely at the time of your purchase?

Absolutely -- I wore it in the store and spent 20 minutes going over the ins and outs of the watch with my AD. Then I got home and admired it some more again the next day (it was still running from being wound the previous day in the store). The following day, i took it out of the box to put on and it had stopped so I tried to wind it and this is when it wouldn't wind.

I should be getting an update tomorrow from the AD and will see what happens.

Thanks to everyone for the advice! Love this community.

I don’t worry about the value being affected.
To REPAIR (not service) a brand new watch is a red flag to me.
Rolex is telling us that the reason there are shortages in fulfilling retail orders
is the time and effort to assemble a Rolex watch, the perfect attention to details
as well as the incredible quality control that goes to their watches…All time consuming
….But in this watch unfortunately … they have failed.
Rolex is not telling us the shortage is due to attention to assembly, or time consuming quality control. Current production is at 2019 levels, or better. The shortage is due exclusively to skyrocketed demand in every market the watches are for sale.

He told me to bring it in (which I did) and they said they hadn't seen something like this in a very long time. They were extremely apologetic and are sending it to the local Rolex watch maker who hopefully can fix it and if not, it'll have to go to the Dallas service center. Very disappointing to have this happen to my first Rolex after owning it for only 2 days and not even wearing it.

We'll see what happens, but has this happened to anyone else? Even if it comes back in perfect condition, does the fact that it will have have been serviced affect its value? Anything else I can/should do? Thanks all.
Maybe they gave you a display watch by mistake? They don’t wind.

Not bad for a trip back to the Swiss HQ, but not what you were expecting when you bought it.

The poster stated the watch was running when he left the AD and was still running the next day when he checked. I will wait until we get the full diagnostic from the service centre before making any more comments.
