Fixing a watch running +40

I found a great deal on a 14060, but found out it’s running +40. What does the process look like for getting this back within COSC? I’m assuming I’ll have to take the us to RSC, but will they need to replace the entire movement? Is this going to cost me thousands?

Basic service is around 700 bucks and should be able to fix almost anything. Might run a bit more if odd parts are needed.

Might just be some oil on the hairspring

Depending on how old your 14060 is could be nothing more than simple regulation, if not serviced say over last 5-10 years then I would recommend a full RSC service, cost around $700 after service you will have a two year warranty.

The cal.3000 in the 14060 is not a COSC tested movement, so there is no guarantee it will achieve or improve upon COSC spec.

That being said, it will be returned from service performing better than +40

I would just add that my 16710 started running several seconds per day fast and I took it to Giovanni Passalacqua (The Independent Service Center of San Francisco) and he quickly determined that my watch was magnetized. He demagnetized it while I waited and didn't charge me for his time. It turns out that I often lay in bed propping my laptop with my left hand (wearing my watch on my left wrist) and in that position my watch is very close to one of the laptop speakers which has a permanent magnet. This apparently was/is the culprit magnetizing my watch. I bought a cheap ($15) watch demagnetizer on Amazon, and now when my watch starts gaining a few seconds a day, I demagnetize it and it immediately returns to ~+1 sec/day. Just my experience; YMMV.
