Not so bad really. I think the cape cod route might help minimize it..

I leaned on my wrist and could feel the watch making contact with sand on ocean floor.

Did I care? I thought I would, but, to my own surprise, I didn’t. Why? Because it was one FUN afternoon with friends and family, and I will look at that scuff for years to come with a smile on my face as a reminder of the great time we had that day.

Point being, enjoy the watch, whether it’s your only one or one in a collection of many.

For me, the worst part about new watches is how shiny they are. I much prefer a bit of wear on a sport watch. If you’re concerned, look at your wedding ring if you’re married. That’s pretty much how your watch is going to look after wearing it that long.

One single scratch is going to stick out like a sore thumb. After 6 months it will have friends and after a few years you probably won’t be able to find the first scratch. It’s all part of wearing them.

Honestly…that’s nothing. Wear it and enjoy it. No one will even notice that except you. And if you do wear it, it will get much more scratched up too. This is nothing!

Not a lot of sympathy from most on here, but I completely feel you, OP. That first bad scratch really, really sucks. What’s worse is if you scratch on the edge of the case or bracelet where it can’t really be polished out or would require laser welding I believe. If you continue to wear the watch, that’ll surely come. If you just care about residuals rather than enjoying the watch, then you probably should wear the watch, or if you do, get protective plastics/films.

As someone who’s particularly OCD about scratches, I’ll say that the first bad one on a new watch glares at me for a week or two, and then you really do start to not notice it as much. You’ll pick up a few new ones, and it’ll be even less noticeable as others pointed out. If you’re like me, you’ll get mad at yourself about the new ones, but each time not as mad as the last time.

In your case (no pun intended), you can polish it out. If you wanted to replace the case, it would be at least $2k, maybe $3k. Not worth it.

Just continue to wear the watch as you feel comfortable doing and try to avoid looking at it. Soon enough it’ll just fade away from your mind. It’ll be like a vase in the corner of the room—you notice it, yet you don’t all at the same time.

Not sure I understand this comment. Are you planning on keeping the watch -- or selling it?

If the former, then you need not worry about resale. Right?

Can someone invent a time machine so we can go back 10 years on TRF when all of this non-sense didn’t exist?

The first one is always the worst. It hurts but it passes.

If it's carefully polished out to a high standard it will be like it never happened. And then it will happen again, and again, and again.

If it's polished to a low standard your problems have only just begun.

Resale value? Don't care, can't comment.

Sunshine polishing cloth (the yellow option). I’ve used it to restore a mirror finish on the case flank of my Sub 41. It worked flawlessly. Folks in the know have told me it works better than Cape Cod cloth for this purpose.

Your Rolex is at it's very best - it's very very best, once it has a year or two of daily wear on it and it's supple and worn in with your marks on it.

You call that a good size scuff you should have seen my 16600 SD after 5 long years working as a real tool watch underwater. Think judging by that miniscule mark on your watch you would of had a heart attack. Now all these every day wearing scuffs scratches etc all best left till normal routine service now depending on use every 5-10 years. When those very nice people at RSC will return watch looking like new only to get scratched again in normal wearing.

My car is completely scratched and I love it. Every scratch gives me a reminder of how much fun I had when the car was new or when some idiot scratched it. I don’t worry as I can have them polished off in my next service. Cars are to be enjoyed and not fussed over. It’s a tool to take me from A to B.

I typically don't address posts like this. Possibly a troll? Is this for real? I have a great idea OP, don't wear your watch; just look at it. These scratch posts should be banned!

You're not wearing it enough. Let it get beat up some more and that little smudge will blend right in.

If you’re worried about this, you have to ask yourself if you can really afford this and if not, switch to a G Shock instead..

I don't understand what being upset about a notable scratch and asking if it can be buffed out has to do with one's ability to afford the watch. IDK, posts like the one above always come across as unwarranted and unhelpful to me ...

Be careful with advice like this. I have seen way too many people grab whatever it is that’s scuffed and rub it with a cape of cloth. Regardless of whether it is polished or brushed and noting looks worse than brushed steel that’s semi polished with a cape cod vloth.

If the op uses a cap of cloth, use it just on the polished surfaces only.

Do read TS thread properly, he is worried about resale value..why get so stressed up wearing a watch. Buy something you can afford wearing without worrying about beating it up. That’s the true joy of wearing a watch. I know people like to hear good things and the truth hurts.

Cry me a river. Geez!

Just leave it alone until it goes back to RSC for 10-year service.

It’s all about resale value … please can we talk about something else?

Maybe cause the op asked about resale value.
