5740 or 5711/1R
Dear friends,
I am considering one of them… my budget would allow me to get one at current market prices ( 230K for 5740 vs 190 for 5711/1R). I know price may drop more… but i dont think much… i maybe wrong! Regardless, i am keen on getting your feedback in case you own them on how you feel on both. I tried both… both are heavy. I just felt the 5740 is more consrvative and maybe more rare while the rose gold of the 5711 is more flashy. Thanks in advance for your insights! Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

You can’t go wrong with the 5740, especially at that price!

What does the rest of your collection consist of? The 5711/1r is quite flashy and perhaps not always appropriate to take out depending on where you live or travel. Easy vote for me here on the 5740, you are comparing an ultra thin QP to a simple 3 hander both in PM - no contest for the 5740. If you want the flash then spend slightly more for a 5980/1R, that imo has more presence as well as a chrono compared to the 5711.

Don't worry about the weight, in no time your arm will get used to the weight and get extra buff with the daily workout. (seriously, won't notice after a while).
For me 5740. At this price point, might as well let HH show what it's got. If want simple time only piece, can always get something like RG GMT or WG sub at much less prices. Curious as I have been considering 5740 at market as well, what condition is the one your looking at? Promise not to grab your deal! |

I guess I'm in the minority here but the 5711r is the most stunning watch I have owned. It has real weight/presence if that makes sense. I think watches at this price point should have some kind of statement and the 5711r has that in spades. You'll find plenty of times to wear it, trust me.

5740 for sure but I’d wait for prices to drop but seems like you got the means so maybe 10-20k doesn’t matter as much to you and you might as well enjoy it ASAP

5740 or 5711/1R
Price seems too high for 5711/1R. You might as well grab 5980/1R as 7sins mentioned. I prefer the 5740 by a large margin here.

I will be the second contrarian here
And suggest the 5711 1/R. It is not too flashy (in my opinion) as the rose gold and brown dial tune it down a bit. It is not like a yellow gold day date. It hugs the wrist easily and slides easily under any cuff. Plus if fills a void in your collection given the steel, and white gold references on bracelets.
To me it is pure class in a (currently) discontinued reference. |

Let's assume money is not an issue and both will hold their value forever.
I own the 5740 and it is spectacular. Truly mesmerizing. I get caught looking at it constantly. Judging your collection if I were you I'd go with the 5711, you don't have any gold bracelet watch and the 5711R is THE way to go. The 5740 is a lot "more bang for your buck", but you can scratch your itch in the complications department with your 5270p, which is superior in my opinion. Would you be willing to change pieces to consolidate your collection further? Congrats br, |

no doubt the R is phenomenal but the 5740 just about perfect for almost every occasion. |

5740
Mostly as I prefer WG over RG and electric blue over brown. PC and micro rotor are a bonus but I like simple stuff as well and would also consider 3711/1G if money no object. |

I would like to offer an alternative view and (hopefully) cause threadstarter a dilemma.
5711r for me. There are many nautiluses, and there are many PP complications/ grand complications. But there is only one 5711R in all its simplicity and opulence. So so simple but it pops so so much. Spectacular is the word. The simplest things are hardest to pop. The simplest food is hardest to make it taste good. Please just name me another watch that is so simple and pops so much. Also, 5711r is unisex with its slim profile and straight down bracelet at the sides. You may be able to get another good 5740ish watch in future, but you may never be able to buy another good 5711r in future (all stock is getting older as we speak, they aren’t producing anymore). |

I'm intrigued as to why so many people go with the 5740 without giving much feedback.
If OP is going aftermarket why not buy the 5711 & a 3940? I feel OP should consolidate and cut the collection tho... |

PS I have the feeling that 5711r is the one you secretly really want, just afraid to make the jump. Go for it. |
