5212a deployant clasp?

First post so please go easy on me. Is it possible to order a Calatrava cross style deployant clasp for the 5212a? If so is it available in steel or would it have to be precious metal?

The watch comes as standard with a steel prong buckle which isn't too my taste. Many thanks all. Been lurking for a long time.

From what I recall its only in PM but can be easy double checked with a Patek AD or if you are in London, the London salon.

I don't recall seeing a steel offering from patek. agree with you the pin buckle type are not my favorite.

however other brands make a quality low key steel deployant if you would be ok with departing from the brand as an alternative? the reduced chance of dropping the watch is worth it to me vs the outlay if the only alternative is a precious metal patek alternative.

I have grand seiko, Tudor and omega offerings, they cost about $250 from the dealers, they are all fine deployants.

someone here posted a WG deployment clasp for this watch looked great and you could barely see the difference between steel watch and WG clasp - id say go for it - I think they ordered the calfskin 5172G strap

The WG clasp has a warmer hue than steel. The platinum one that comes with 5270P, 5236P etc is closer to steel in color. But costs significantly more than the WG.

IIRC, many years ago there was a grand complication that came with a SS deployant clasp. 5950a? Only Watch? However Patek will not sell the clasp separately to a non-owner of that model.

I'm one who added a WG deployant with 5172 blue/white stitch 20/16 strap. SS was not available and the WG cost about $2k 18 months ago. Yes, it's expensive but one saves a bit since straps last much longer and as others note the risk of dropping the watch with a deployant is less and especially for those who take their watches on/off often. Note that a deployant specific strap (125/65) is different than the pin buckle (115/75), but please confirm these sizes before ordering.

Thanks everyone - very helpful responses as I had hoped. Will investigate platinum deployant as think the colour is closer to steel than WG although will be much more expensive I suspect - maybe double?

Thanks Dan. Damn I'd rather pay the USD price even with the current exchange rate...

Think I'm going to have to get one. I've got the 5172 strap on the pin buckle and it's mostly ok but tends to rotate a little off centre on my wrist...

The 5172 strap is designed for a deployant (unless you’ve had it made to order) so won’t be correct for a pin buckle. I’ve had my 5212 on both pt and WG deployants, tbh either looks great.

Do you have any pictures you could post please Russell? Keen to see what they look like. Thanks.

I think looking at the two deployants next to each other you are hard pressed to tell one from the other - on the same strap it would be slightly more obvious. WG is on the 5212.

Thank you. Agree can't really tell the difference between WG and platinum. 5370 is just incredible. 5212 looks much better on the 5172 strap than the stock brown calf.

Today's newly released 5935A has a deployant clasp which I believe is their first steel deployant clasp. This seems to be going unnoticed. Wonder if the clasp will be available to buy separately eg. for 5212A. Doubt it. Thoughts?

I'd call patek salon and london and ask. I assume they dont know immediately but in a few weeks - why not ? What if I scratch my 5935 and want a replacement they should sell them just like WG and Platinum ones

I talked to my AD today as I am receiving the 5212a next month and they will call Patek to find out if its possible. She mentioned that it might take a year or so before the clasps will be available for purchase

Congratulations on your 5212A that I hope you are enjoying @razzledazzle. What information if any did you receive on the 5935A deployant clasp and its suitability for the 5212A please?

Great success…. Visited London Patek Salon last week and got the steel deployant the and new strap for my 5212 and it’s a perfect fit. Pleasantly surprised that the clasp was £480 - thought it would be more. Looks great - will post pics.

I have black alligator with grey stitching on pin buckle and the deployand on blue calfskin. Quick release pins will allow me to swap easily!

Nice! Thanks for sharing. I’ll have to reach out and order one too.

Thanks for letting us know - that's excellent news. Did you have to prove ownership of the 5212 or did they just let you order one?

Please post pictures when you can.

I was there with my wife putting her watch in for service and just asked the question. I was wearing the watch. The SA went to the watch maker on site and emerged with the deployant. 15 mins later I was on my way with the clasp and new strap.

I picked up my steel deployant today and it's perfect on the 5212A. Looks exactly the same except it has "STAINLESS STEEL" engraved on the underside. Thanks again to Captainbob for the heads up!
