Issue with date change on sky-dweller
Hi TRF members,
Has anyone experienced issues with the date change on a sky-dweller? The crown turns smoothly (almost buttery smooth) forward & backward without any resistance when I try to change the date. Last night, I set the minute hand at 2359H just to see the month & date indicator jump over. I then proceeded to set both home and local time again. But when I tried to set the date again, I encountered a lot more resistance when turning the crown forward / backward. Is this normal? Does the sky dweller also have a timeframe danger zone when the date shouldn’t be set? And crucially, have I caused any serious damage to the watch? Hope I didn’t shear off the teeth on some of the gears. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

After doing some experimentation, when turning the crown forward or backward to change the date, the resistance occurs only between 0000H (+/- a couple a few minutes) and 1000H.
Hope to hear from fellow sky-dweller owners if they’ve also experienced this issue. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I was going to say midnight to 8am but 12-10 is good enough to know we’re talking about the same thing.
Normal in my experience. Certainly once you get past noon you can whizz through the date with little resistance. It doesn’t seem to cause any damage but no need to push your luck once you know how to avoid it. Interestingly the same thing happens with 3235s but it’s much more subtle than with the SkyD. |

Set at 11:59
I always read that it is not good to set your watch around that time.

Never experienced this issue with my 934 or 935
Only thing really with a Sky-D is make sure you have the bezel/ring command rotated where it goes. In position 2 or 3 will mess up the date change etc

There’s no danger zone on a modern Rolex and especially on SkyD. That’s for the old ETA based movements commonly found elsewhere. That’s the movements that take forever to spin the date wheel over.
You got that resistance because you tried to change the date as the time change was about to occur signifying a new day. Next time, set it a few min early to allow yourself to change the date ahead, if needed. Don’t cut it so close. |
