Just over 7 inch wrist and enjoy everything from vintage 34mm watch to my 44mm Panerai. 36mm is just fine...

Is 36mm too small??
7.2” Not too small. Classic look. On 5 digit vs 6, 5 all the way. The super case is completely out of proportion just to fit the modern trend for larger watches. I’ve owned a number of modern Rolex professional series, and sold them all. The jarring step from case to bracelet is horrible. Sent from my iPad using Tapatalk |

I think wrist size is just one part of the equation
If you're over 6 ft and over 200lbs .... 36 can look small on your body ( not just wrist ) That said 36 will be comfortable for many , many people Dial size is another variable . Larger dial , less bezel = watch can appear larger Etc |

I have a just over 7 inch wrist and I wear all different size watches as demonstrated here. My Tissot is near the 36mm size and certainly the vintage Rolex Air-King and Gruen Curvex are even smaller. It’s all whatever you think looks good on you.

I'm going back towards 36mm.
I have purchased quite a few smaller watches recently and I really like the charm they offer. I still believe sports watches should be 40mm. If you wear 40/41mm subs or 42mm speedmasters, going to 36mm is going to look and feel odd. But I get use to it quickly and actually think the larger watch with lugs extending to the edges of the wrist looks a bit OTT sometimes. |

I'm hoping to add a new explorer soon and the 36mm size is something I've been thinking about. This is the problem when you can't try the watches on. My wrist is a little under 7". I'm sure it will be ok having seen some of the pics in this thread

An often overlooked aspect of how a watch wears is the actually dial real estate. My 321 wears beautifully on my 7” wrist as does my SD43. Now there’s no denying the SD43 is a larger watch, but the dial on the 321 appears much larger than the SD43’s, making the 321 wear larger. YMMV |

True...I bought this in January. I've worn Rolex since 1986 & love the classic size. Before I bought my DD 36, I also tried on the DD 40 & felt it was too big....Give me the Classics everyday!!

Flat wrist too. 36mm - in real life, looks quite dainty. But this watch for me has a lot of charm at this size. Its my pick. |

I have to agree. 5 digit sports Rolex are the ones for me and 36mm Datejust are perfect size for what they do.

I'm a normally sized guy with a 6.5'' wrist more or less and I consider a 36mm watch too small for me. I can't read the time on my DJ 1601 so I don't wear it. Many other people have different opinion on the subject and it's just fine IMHO

I'm currently wearing my 21 year old 34MM DJ and love it - was wearing my 41 OP all weekend, and the change in weight is welcome today.

And I suddenly had the feeling that apart from the bracelet, this size and dial could actually make this watch an ideal dress watch today. What do you think about this? |

I'm leaning towards a 36mm Datejust for my next timepiece but I also have very skinny wrists so should look perfect!

Is 36mm too small??
It depends on your wrist size. I have 7.5” wrists, so a 41 works for me. If I had 6.5” wrists, then a 36 would probably be better.
One thing though…I do get offended when someone says that a 36 is a women’s watch. Not sure why because I have a 41 and larger wrists, but I find it offensive. Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

6.75" wrist here, IMHO 36mm is too small for me unless I'm wearing a long-sleeved dressy outfit or sportcoat or suit.

Because lots of women wear that size, and fewer men, it didn't used to be that way.

What is the dial color of your DJ36? Maybe its a darker shade/color which could tend to look smaller on the wrist versus light color dial worn.

6.5in wrist and I prefer a bit larger. Sort of 38mm is where I draw my line. I've got to be desperate to buy a watch to get a 36 or 34mm watch!!

To add to my earlier post, there was a time (decades ago) where I thought a 40mm sub was too BIG. Back then I was going from a typical citizen/sieko ("timex" sized) quartz watch maybe 28 mm or so. It was a big 1st leap to go to a 35mm breitling - then a 38mm breitling navitimer airborne - and I looked at the rolex sub at that time, and thought it was too big. 2010/11 changed all that with multiple purchases of 40mm rolex sports watches. And now, the "41mm" 124060 is getting the most wrist time (as it is the newest acquistition). Just last night I put the 38mm navitimer on (a nostalgic fav) and it was light as a feather and did look on the small-ish side - and my wrist size is still 6.75 in. Amazing how tastes can evolve over time
