Rolex deepsea 126660 black or deepblue jc

Just been offered a black dial deepsea by my ad,but cant decide if i go with it or wait for a jc?? Help and opinions please

When I was offered the black dial DSSD by my Ad I took it and put a deposit down for the JC and they told me it would be a year.

I actually got allocated one just two months later and picking up the black helped my case I think. I originally intended to move the black on but I kept both and they co exist in rotation quite happily as they have very different personalities on the wrist.

The Black DSSD is a stark, clinical demonstration of Rolex engineering, their ultimate diver whereas the JC is more fun, more going on with the graduation and green highlight text.

If you are set on just one and the JC was your grail then the black might not do it for you but it is a fantastic watch in it's own right.

I think the deepsea is all about the James Cameron. It may be tempting to take the all black now, but if you can get the JC, you will have it and love it and caress it forever... well unless you decide to flip it for something else in 6 months, which I can never understand lol

If that is the case you should follow your gut feeling. The Black is certainly the classic choice and boy does it have some wrist presence!

Your money should be relatively safe in either as well, the JC will always command more but 126660 Blacks are in solid demand in their own right and the wider bracelet and reduced lug length are welcome refinements to the original design.

Had the black DSSD and later exchanged it for a Deep Blue and man, I have never looked back. The black is beautiful but I have numerous divers with black faces so I wanted something different.

I prefer the REAL james cameron deepsea.... the black face Mk1 first edition. Look for one of the mk1 watches

This is where I am. Classic Rolex dive watches we’re always black, white and silver. If money was no object, I still prefer the black. In this case the black is a better deal. I also would take a Pepsi or black GMT over the black blue Batman. Black and blue is not a great combo in my opinion.

The important thing is these are all just opinions. Pick for yourself.

I went with the black dial for the 126660. Just liked it more than the gradient blue dial version. The relative popularity of the JC dial for resale potential was not an issue for me. I have no designs on selling the watch after I let my 116660 go and regretted it.

The D-Blue is not as hard to get as other sports models. Lots of wimps out there with little wrists :-). I put my name on the list at 6 ADs and got the call in about one month. I think a lot of people also pass on this particular one when they get the call due to the price.

People buy the JC because they swear it’s more rare, although it is not. Many people do not desire the deep sea purely because it is thick, hefty 44mm.

Personally, I bought the black dial & I can’t wear anything else at this point.

This is a true under the radar statement piece for enthusiasts. May not seem like the most desirable piece in the market, but I really appreciate the design, date, and feel of the watch (it’s really hard for me to put anything else on for the past 2 months).

I guess that people buy the DSSD for it's overengineering and impressive depth rating. That's why I bought it.

As such the only DSSD which is interesting is the 116660 with black dial. That watch was not really popular and still isn't. Guess it's only for the few purist who prefer function above form.

Than came the blue and later the 126660 with all the "imperfections" removed or modified to please a more regular customer. Taking away the charm of it in the same time.

I understand the allure and probably would opt for this one if buying today but in hindsight I am glad to have the real DSSD.
In all it's clumsiness a very nice watch to wear.

If I was in the market for used I'd go for the original black dial 116660 and new I would take the fancy blue 126660.

It is strange the way people comment about the heft of the DSSD as if it is some kind of ridiculous 50mm U Boat. It is only 44 mm and if you put it next to an Omega PO Chrono it looks positively svelte!!

Maybe because it is big for a Rolex but in the overall scheme of things it is not outrageous and lug to lug is pretty average

Exactly, Rolex made SMALL watches in the sport line, I have never understood why the forum insists, for example, that the Rolex 6 digits look BIG, they are small! Here is a fetish with the watch being small but it is not a calatrava is a sport watch!

I wear a UTS Munchen for 10 years in rotation with a DateJust without problem (6.75 wrist) and the UTS does see small my SD43.
