White Gold Daytona... should I get it?

Newbie here :)

I am looking for a SS Daytona and yup.... 1 to 2 year wait time. My local AD does have the White Gold silver dial (I am assuming steel and black) one available... It’s a little more than the SS one so curious if I am insane for not getting it right away.

I personally like the white/black ceramic SS better, but not sure if I want to wait for 24+ months (not super close with my AD although I got few Rolex with them)

Thank you for your advice in advance

Definitely get the one you want. That’s a lot of money!

Fair point! ;). Probably will end up getting it as Daytona are harder find in my area. I am more curious on the feedback of that particular watch since average wait time for Daytona seems to be more than 24 months. So really I am not asking if I should get it but rather if I am insane not to get it. I think you have indirectly answered my question so thank you :)

Sadly I do in this case. Been looking for the SS or the platinum version (yeah I know it’s a big range difference :( )for sometime now. I manage to get a hold of a platinum version at one point but it was gone before I made up my mind (within a day).

You should try it on. Once you do, the answer should be clear. If it’s “I love it and I have to have it!”, then buy it. If it’s anything less than that then who cares if you miss out?
I actually didn’t want the WG OF thinking it’s too much money but my SA suggested that I try it on “just for fun”. I tried it on and I immediately fell in love with it. Slept on it and decided to get it. It’s probably the favorite in my collection.

I've got the white gold Daytona on the Oysterflex , One thing i remember about the old White gold Daytonas is they don't hold the price very well , that said I don't think you'll lose out long term on the latest models

It's a nice watch but only buy what you really like. Going for PM models as SS is unavailable might be the strategy for why SS models are disappearing so fast..

If you are buying the PM piece only because the steel isn't available now, then I would wait. Buy what you love and hold on to them.

It's all about which one you'd rather own...and wear, of course.

No contest for me, as I've had both, with only the OF version still hanging around. The good news is that the WG is holding pretty well on the secondary market, so, if you didn't care for it, or if the steel version somehow becomes magically available, you won't get hurt if you need to move it.

If you’re going to love it as much as the SS white....yes, go buy it. I’d at least try to see both in person before I made the decision.

The SS version is an outstanding piece, however the WG is special. In pictures they look very similar, but once you try on the WG you will know the feeling. Maybe you could get the WG now and then SS later (if it is still desired)? Really cannot go wrong with either.

I would take a step back and educate myself on the variations of models on the market. I would also, respectfully ask, why the Daytona? I understand a lot about the look, feel, history and the limited availability. Once you answer those questions and understand and own the responses then I would go buy what I want. I have owned all of the Daytona's, in every metal, and have always moved them on. Obviously, if you can buy the Platinum version then you can afford the SS in the Grey Market. Pick the one you want, get your best deal and buy it. Then wear it and enjoy it. Just my thoughts. Good luck.

Get the WG. The dial is infinitely better than the SS.

The white gold Daytona is a beauty. I much prefer that watch on the bracelet, however, so my decision would be swayed on whether you're considering that or the OF.

If you need to ask if you should spend 30K, I doubt you should make the outlay. Wait on the SS or forget the SS. I would not settle for anything as you would then be buying the SS and having to sell the white gold PM at a loss. This means you are paying more for the SS as the loss carries over as it was all part of one big contorted deal.

Go for the WG on oysterflex. Unless you want the full bracelet. I regret letting my WG go. Either way you cant go wrong. Dont focus on the value retention.

Ask your AD if you buy the WG Daytona if he will move you up on the list for a ss Daytona. Won't hurt to ask and if he will then buy the WG and wear it until the ss comes in. You can decide later which to keep.

Thank you everyone for your recommendation. I will likely get this one and get the SS version later as many of you suggested. Doesn’t hurt to have both. But I will for sure try it on first. So far I love all of my Rolexes so I am sure this one won’t be any different

The WG OF is hard to get in it's own right. If you like it, buy it. If not......don't.
