HQ Milton listed another fake for sale this week

From 'Perezscope' on Instagram. I can't post the link since I'm a new user here.

This is the second time they have been caught with this in the last few months. The last time was in October, 2020.

EDIT: Well not fake, but rather 'franken'.

Something we never discuss in the Rolex watch forum is anything about fakes.

This is not 'fake' as such. He questions the originality of the 16520-marked case with an early floating dial. The suggestion being it started out as a cheaper 16523. It would appear that these TT watches had matching SS cases, but bezel, pushers, crown & bracelet added the gold.

He claims it is obvious that the reference number was re-engraved - what makes it obvious? What am I missing?

A trained eye can tell. Also he states that there’s a difference in the wear on the case on that side versus the other side.

I wonder if HQ Milton will do the right thing and reach out to the buyer and offer a refund.

Instead of calling and advising HQ Milton they have a fake or a franken watch, and then do a take-down piece, ‘Perezscope’ should do what every other journalist does: Contact HQ Milton and tell them they’re the main subject of an article about a franken watch he is about to publish. “And may I have a comment?” Dealers take bad publicity seriously and I’m sure they would have responded to Perezscope, had they known he was about to publish a story.

Apparently, the last time he did contact them, and was ignored, and they also then blocked him on Instagram.

Why doesn't HQ Milton whose been around for a longtime and is considered a trusted seller do their friggin homework before listing these types of watches so that nonexpert/unsuspecting buyers don't get ripped off. How many of these get by the scrutiny of guys like Perezscope and bought by people thinking they got something special when it is no such thing. He can't validate every watch for sale so we need trusted sellers to be exactly that and not make mistakes like this, especially in the price range of these watches.

So I guess we can’t rely anymore on saying “buy the seller,” not the watch.
