lol. Didn't pull the trigger on either so far. I think ultimately it will be the Lange but need some time to make sure!

The 1815 Chronograph in any configuration is a great watch. The RG with black dial is very compelling, but I happened to prefer the boutique edition slightly more. Obviously the backside view of the movement is spectacular, and while some might see it as a “Datograph Light”, I see it as the purist’s chronograph. To be honest I did initially gravitate to the more iconic Dato, but on the wrist it just didn’t work for me. Then I tried on the 1815 Chronograph. The difference in feel and wearability was dramatic and I continue to get so much enjoyment out of wearing the 1815.
As for the world timer, I like the concept but I’ve never been able to warm up to one. Maybe it’s the abundance of information on the dial. Maybe it’s the fact that some countries are no longer using daylight savings time, which makes for a lot of guesswork with regard to the actual time in some places. I much prefer the Patek travel time function of the 5164. But then I’ve rarely had to monitor more than two time zones. Anyway, between the two watches you’re considering, I voted with my wallet. |

You turn around the 1815 and see the movement and you know your decision being made.

I own 2 Patek world timers and several Langes...so different.
I struggle to read the time on the world timers so for that reason only I'd go ALS If you have better eyes than I, well, that's another story. Both are amazing. But there's something special about a Patek world timer. |

Short Answer: 1815 Chronograph.
Long Answer: Do you want a world timer or do you want a chronograph? Both watches are probably the best in their respective classes for their complications. I like the case of the Patek better, especially on a smaller wrist, and the dial is more eye-catching but it's somewhat difficult to read and I like running seconds on a watch. However, when you turn them over, it's really all over. Lange chronographs are the most beautiful movements I've seen. But, as others have said, people wear their watches dial side up. |
