Thanks Cam. Just one of those shots where the light hit it just right. Was literally just sitting on my recliner watching tv with a window next to me.

Has anyone here acquired one of the new 40.5mm GMT Spring Drive models? I'm seriously considering purchasing one and would like to get some user feedback. I'm intrigued by the Spring Drive movements in general and would also appreciate any comments on them as well. TIA.

I have the SBGE263 and like it a lot (you may want to do a separate thread on this topic).

Pluses -
The case is very nice with typical GS excellent finishing. I like the crown position (I'm wear my watch on the right wrist).
The case size is very wearable for average sized wrists.
it comes in a few different dial and bezel colors.
Spring drive movement is fantastic - beautiful sweeping seconds hand, unparalleled accuracy.
The dial and bezel are absolutely gorgeous.
It's lumed and easy to read in any condition.
GMT complication is something I use and very legible thanks to the clearly marked bezel.
Bracelet finishing is very nice.
The clasp has some fine adjustments that can be made with a basic strap tool.
Bracelet links are fixed with screws.

Minuses -
The clasp could be more substantial. It appears to be stamped. Looks nice though. I do get concerned about scratching the bottom of the clasp so I'm careful when I wear this watch (ok - I'm always careful with my watches).
The crown screws in, which is nice, but sometimes it's difficult to get the threads started. Also, pulling the crown into the GMT position can be a little tricky.

Overall - highly recommend. You can see my watch a few posts back.

Thanks very much, Pattymac. I saw that the SBGE263 was a sold out limited production piece, but very similar to the SBGE253. I think I'll go ahead and place an order. I use the GMT function several times a day and am impressed with the Spring Drive movement accuracy and lack of sensitivity to the watch's position. Your review is very helpful.

I don't think there's anyone in the business that does a better champagne dial than Grand Seiko.

I would have to agree. More subtle than Rolex IMHO

Perhaps you may consider my recent comments on the SBGE257 as a user opinion.

Mike, You have an eye for some extremely nice looking watches. This one is certainly no exception. Truly a beauty. What reference number is this one?

Thanks for the kind words Wayne. This was the first spring drive GS sold to the public SBGA001.

The current version of this watch is the SBGA201. The only difference between the two is the 201 does away with the "SEIKO" writing at the top of the dial and moves the "GS Grand Seiko" logo and writing to the top in its place.

Let me see if I can get this image to load...
