AD can’t remove a link?
I purchased my watch from a good friend (Sub-C) about two years ago. I lost some weight and went to the local AD and they said the watchmaker couldn’t change my link because he couldn’t get my loctight out?
Do you guys have any comments on this? Or where I should go next? Afraid if I go to another AD theyll just say the same. |

I worked at a Rolex AD,
it is so simple, heat the screw end a bit and the loctite will loose up and you can with the right size of screwdriver remove the screw without any damage whatsoever. Br Ron |

Any competent watchmaker can do the job. I would be surprised if a watchmaker even looked at yours..

Heat loosens Loctite. A hairdryer with a tapered end or a heat gun just to warm up the link side where the pin threads are. And a hollow ground screwdriver if possible.

Loctite usually has to be warmed up so that the screw comes out easily. I'm surprised they don't teach this to "watchmakers", especially if its at an AD.

What watchmaker was this? lol. The proper width and properly sharpened screwdriver should make this easy(and scratchless!!). Even without heat. Sometimes, a simple tap with a hammer on the screw driver is enough to break it loose. I've never had to heat bracelet screws in my experience. Usually only have this issue with removing crowns from stems, or tubes from cases.

Can you give me a link to this hammer and screwdriver combination?
How big a hammer do I need? Is this to break the loctite bond in the blind threaded hole? I have tried google with no luck.

I use a hammer similar in size to this
https://www.esslinger.com/watchmaker...RoCnqUQAvD_BwE Doesn't need to be big or heavy. Even a nylon or wood head would be fine. It just needs a quick firm tap or two. Nothing extreme. I've used this method plenty of times. Especially on back with screws that will not come out, or have been stripped from others trying to remove them. |
