Lol. Yes, they do have some cases with displays, but even in that light you have to admit the number of empty cases is kind of embarrassing for a brand new boutique.

If Rolex wants to lean into exclusivity, that’s fine by me. But the boutique is doing themselves a disservice by building out a new space and equipping it with upwards of 20 (maybe more?) display cases in the current environment. They should have included some historical pieces, literature, etc. (similar to the AP boutique) to fill space. Empty cases don’t look good.

This is a short-term problem. Two years from now, I expect the cases will be relatively well stocked with DD, DJ, and various sizes.

Nothing much to physically show... double yipes... a sad no-show is depressing for the hopeful customer. Remember, for many the special occasion of finally getting a Rolex is one of celebrating a life achievement. Perhaps that's how it was........

No high-quality modern interactive touch-screen customer display that brings to life Rolex's prestigious history, exploration, etc.... triple yipes... wasted retail space that could be productive.

Again, perhaps it's just me as enjoyed luxury retail on many levels on both sides of the counter.
What you’re describing is the flag ship store environment in Dubai. You won’t get that from any store front AD in a normal retail space and it doesn’t seem Rolex cares. I understand what you’re saying, I worked retail for ten years but the sales people are interacting with people, they’re just not showing watches. They’re also busy as ever selling directly to clients making more money than ever before while still delivering a luxury experience to individual customers.

The only issue would be if the store over hired staff.

Brand new boutique with display cases designed to hold dozens of watches. Even if filled with dummy demos, they’d look like an omega boutique. That’d be incongruent with the Rolex’s supposedly exclusive upmarket aspirations. Now they’re empty, so they just plain look bad no matter which way you slice it.

NYC for god sake.

Unreal.
The San Francisco boutique looks just as depressing, 100% empty, they should really just put sheets over these stores because it’s truly making the brand look absolutely depressing. It’ll be branded in peoples mind forever. I’d be one thing if LV, Hermes, Fendi, Gucci etc. right up the street we’re empty as well, but they’re not.

The brand looks bankrupt.

I don't even understand this. What is the point of having a display with nothing in it or owning a business that has no product to sell. I am sure there are beaucoup watches in the back but that's just stupid.

Just an FYI - the store does not look like this anymore. Every case is filled with exhibition pieces and there is typically one small section of pieces for sale now (small DJs, two tone 36s with rose gold or diamonds, etc). I would say this is one of the friendlier stores of Rolex in NYC, ADs are open to actually talking about watches and letting you try on pieces. But it is the standard “we will take your information down” scenario when trying to get your first piece with them.

Wow, that NYC Boutique which the OP started this thread with, is a pretty beautiful place! My local one is nice, but that one has a modern art flair/design to it.
