French Press

After our trip to Europe in April, I've been craving a decent cup of coffee since I returned home. My wife put this in my stocking and I've been thoroughly enjoying it. If you have some interesting tips let me know. I have been using illy coffee (coarse ground) and it's wonderful.

I too love a French press. Last year we remodeled our kitchen. I was going to purchase a fancy coffee maker with all the bells and whistles like a mini Starbucks thing. But...instead, I installed an instant hot water system that spits out water at 210*. So every morning I enjoy a pot of French press!

I have just had my 3rd hot water dispenser go out on me. It's the Kitchen-Aid all SS model. I'd like to know if there's a better one. I'm getting frustrated.

Best way to make coffee at home IMO.

Here's a few tips I've picked up along the way:
1) Don't pour boiling water in; either take off the kettle before it boils or let it sit a few minutes after it does.

2) Pour just enough water to let the grounds soak first, then fill the carafe.

3) After stirring, but before pressing, try skimming any particles near the surface of your mixture. Will make for a really smooth cup of coffee

This is my favorite method to brew coffee, but honestly if it weren't for drip makers with automatic timers I couldn't function in the morning.

I'd like the flavor but can't manage the clean-up...our Capresso grinds it, brews it easypeasy

i moved on from a french press to a nespresso, but go back every so often.

stir twice, once upon pour, then again five minutes later pre-press.

When our coffee grinder/maker died over a weekend my husband ran out and got a French Press and a manual coffee grinder. We also have instant hot water, so he uses the French Press to make coffee on the weekends, when time is not of the essence. During the week we use our new automatic grinder/maker on a timer (plus it makes more coffee).

We are not fans of super-strong coffee so we exclusively use Kona whole beans..they are so smooth and wonderful.

I love the French press but need my fix in the morning. Found the Technivorm that seems to be the only drip machine that brews at 203f

Love the French press. Coffee is smooth and earthy, and sometimes, a few grounds let me know it's been done this way for a long time.

I have but don't notice much difference. It is seemingly just an upside down French press with slightly more water control?

Just don't press down too hard when "filtering" the coffee. I pressed down with a decent amount of force once when the filter wasn't moving down and a big chunk of the side of the glass container near the bottom popped out and the water/coffee came flooding out. Luckily it was on the side facing away from me. After that I'm VERY careful not to press too hard.

Yes the franke insta hot systems do hold up well. I have installed over 100 and have not had any problems. They use a replaceable filter and that's about it.
