Would you trade an SD43 for a 1675?
As the title states, would you trade an SD43 MKII for a 1968 Long E 1675?
A little background on the reason for the trade is that I wanted an SD43 when they were announced in 2017. I am from a family of divers and have always loved the Sea Dwellers in general. Before purchasing the one I currently have, I passed up offers from ADs more than a few times for one reason or another. I am honestly not much of a diver but an avid aviation enthusiast, as I am a private pilot and a partner in an airplane. So with that, what would you all say as far as trading the SD43 for the 1675. Mine is a full set purchased May 2019 and the 1675 is naked.Below is a picture of the one i am looking at currently. |

I would not trade for that 1675. The lume has crumbled and has created an unattractive appearance.

The lume on the 1675 is pretty bad looking. I wouldn’t.

No having had both there 1675 has a lot of disadvantages if you want to wear it and rely on it. You don't have to worry with the SD wear it as hard or light as you want. With the 1675 you will worry with the bracelet, how light and small it wears, the $2000 bezel popping out, the lume crumbling, the waterproofness ect. the movt is as solid as it gets so I'm not going to knock that. It was a great watch to pick up in the 4-5k range 10 years ago but it's not a 12k watch except for the very few museum pieces.
There will be those here with examples of wearing it for forty five years and no problems. But the majority will have 10 watch collections and wear it to the office every now and then. Not many boasts of not worrying in the hot tub or to the beach ect. |

I would keep the SD43 as it is a great watch. I would add a Tudor GMT Pepsi and get on with it. The vintage market and ownership is a minefield and a money pit.

I’m guessing the title of the post should read:
Would you trade an SD43 for this 1675? Maybe not for that one, but a nice 1675? Absolutely. |

OP, Nothing wrong with wanting a GMT, but you really need to know your stuff (especially with 4 digit references). Also, these are about as polar opposite on the wearing end of the spectrum as you can get. I’m sure you’re aware of that, and maybe that’s what you are looking for. |

This is a Mk1 I sold a couple of years ago. This should give you a good idea of what a great one should look like. I would swap for one like this.
